Hi,

Hi, today I made the journey from north Manchester to Wolverhampton to pick up the R1200GS Adventure demo machine. It doesn't sound far, however nature threw everything at me, the temperature dropped to 0.5 degrees C at one time.

So once feeling had come back to my finger tips I had a quick look at the bike, paid, changed insurance, taxed it and rode off. I hadn't test ridden one, I just bought it over the phone.....a bit like my 5 series .

What a difference from my 2013 Tripple black Adventure, soooo smooth, it cost a fair bit to change and I will actually use this one, the old one is in Wolvehampton with only 3500 miles on the clock, if anyone is after one it's in great nick, fully serviced. I just wish I had found this forum before I P/X'd it.

One question, can I get another key fob for the keyless ignition, I forgot to ask and knowing my luck I will lose the only one I have. I do of course have the plastic one.

That seems a great way to bond with your new bike. Good effort!

Yup, that was me, a bit wobbly to start, the throttle is so light compared to the old one, the journey home was worse than the one down, why do they let morons on the motorway?

So glad I use the train for work these days, driving to London or Scotland would, well I would have to just stop.

Skip to 30mins 30secs to see a near miss fortunately averted. Probably someone will come along and give a mechanical reason why that wouldn't have fallen out, nevertheless a spare could be handy

I did exactly that in the Picos in October. Rode about 20 miles before mate saw it at a picture taking stop. Bloody lucky

I keep mine on a lanyard around my neck, job done. Cameras/phones etc live in my tank bag which is an SW motech quick release type.
The BMW ones are pretty pricey, £100 plus I think.
You can get a metal non transponder key cut or ordered from BMW if you are in and out of the panniers all the time, or use the plastic one (but it feels a bit flimsy).

Hello good choice, u were lucky to get that one as I was looking at buying it haha View attachment 332532 bought this one instead

They had one with 5 miles on the clock for slightly less tgphan the demonstrator, however that one went on the day I called, had I called a day earlier it would have been mine as I bought unseen....

Now to the keys, I had a moment of clarity this morning, the little plastic key will fit quite conveniently under the lining of my helmet, it's about the only thing I don't change when I go out.

Nice bikes guys, a nice little series of piccys to look at on a Sunday morning, sorta kick starts biking enthusiasm on this dreary uk day..
I really like the GSA but can't come to trade my 2014 (light flywheel) Gs in..

Good luck with the new bike Dwained!

I ordered a new spare non transponder key with my new bike, the proper transponder key remains permenantly zipped away secured to the short pocket lanyard in my jacket breast pocket, whilst the spare cheap non transponder key is used at cafe stops etc for removing and refitting the sat nav, unlocking and locking the top box and panniers, and seats if required.
This eliminates the chance of me leaving the very expensive and precious transponder key in the top box or at my last parking place. As you know you can leave the transponder key in your top box lid or at the place where you started your bike and drive away without out it. I don't know how far you would get, but it's a risk that that I don't need.
The spare genuine BMW non transponder key was about £20 -ish, which seems plenty on it's own, but not much when your paying for the new bike.
I did look at getting a pattern key cut in the high street but the key cutters in our locality couldn't mange it.

Hi bought a key off flea bay £5.40 had it cut for a fiver at the local market. Great for luggage and sat nav. Enjoy the bike.

To enable you to get home, I guess :nenau

:beerjug:

Well I for one made it, I am surprised a lot of others did, being high up I viewed a few things, coffee, burgers......and a sausage eater, the guy even had the nerve to flick me the bird as I undertook him, not clever I know however at the time he had slowed down to about 50, I just left my new fanged cruise set at 70......TBH I am not as comfortable with cruise on this as I Am in my car.

New remote key is circa £170 I believe, when I asked. As somebody said secure the main key well. And carry plastic key.

Makes you laugh when a few years ago you got 3 keys.!
