Hi All

I'm sure there's probably a more appropriate place to post this, but I can't find it. Although, with being on such small Island, maybe some locals can point me in the right direction re local dealers?

I need some new boots. The pair I've got were bought for a more "arse up head down" bike, and for some reason, they're not so good with the comfy seating that a BMW provides. I don't intend doing any serious off-roading, but I need some boots that are really comfy to ride in (obviously) and also to walk around in. They have to be an all year round boot, and be totally waterproof (if there is such a thing!) :augie

Can anyone suggest a make that they can seriously recommend, and more to the point, what I should be walking away from? (no pun intended!) :D

Cheers

Shim

Edit: I prefer to try them on first rather than buying off the interweb.

Altberg. Recommend without a moments hesitation. Trying them on might be a bit of a problem though.

I have a pair of Non stop Goretex, not cheap but brilliant. Comfortable, waterproof and when they are worn out you can send them back to be re soled.

Cheers mate, I appreciate your feedback, they look good. Need to see if I can find a local dealer :thumb2

Over the last few years I've had both Altberg and more recently Daytona. Both top quality, but for me, the Daytonas are more comfortable.

Altberg Clubman Roadster. Been using them for years now and they are the best boots I've ever had. Once they're broken in you can wear them to ride to italy, then walk all round Monza race course in all day in complete comfort. (done that, and most other European WSB tracks). They wear well, give good support and feel, and are 'proper' motorcycle boots, not fashion statements.

Hey Shim

Daytona Trans Open GTX. 37cm shaft (ooer), totally dry and extremely durable. Expect to pay around the £270 mark though. I've had mine for just over 4 years and while they are showing signs of wear, they are still very functional. Still water tight and all zips working perfectly.

The new Honda dealer in Kinsgwood Grove is an agent although gawd knows how much they'll charge.

I am a size 9 with wide feet and the Daytona size 43 fits like a..............glove??? or should that be a boot?:nenau

Cheers, I might pop in to the dealer tomorrow and see how much they want for a pair :thumb2

I got a pair of BMW boots from Jason Griffiths (Ex S&S) for about £180. I have walked miles in them they are so comfy, still 100% waterproof. They work well on a GS or the RS..Highly recommend them. Top velcro fastening and two adjustable ankle clips.

I never had a chance to get in to the Honda dealer today to see about the Daytonas', but I'm liking what you're saying... :) What make (model, manufacturer etc etc) were they? I get on well with Jason (I did buy my GS from him afterall ;) ), so I'd like to give him the business if I can.

Start with RIDE magazine's top five boots in their 2008 Rider Power survey. The top three all-weather boots were TCX Infinity GTX, Alt-Berg Clubman Roadster and BMW Santiago. I'm not sure why Daytona didn't make the top 5 but they should definitely be considered. All of these brands/models are very good. I have a wide foot and find the BMW Santiago extremely comfortable and they've never leaked a drop. Since you want all-day comfort then fit is everything so you really need to try them on and have a good walk around the showroom before purchasing. You'll also want to check that the boot's buckles or fasteners aren't interfering with trouser zips and putting undue pressure on the bony parts of your ankles.
