New Boots

My Daytonas have sprung a leak and are not of the repairable sort so am looking for a replacement and in that I'm not an (intentional) off roader I'm looking at the hybrid road/motorX boots that are waterproof and hopefully still comfy but have a bit more protection especailly for the ankle. I have a short list of :
TCX Infinity GTX
SIDI Adventure
BMW Santiago
Any views out there?

Infinity Boots seem to have it. Has no-one tried the Sidi Adventure boot which looks as though it has some good ankle protection, but a bit pricey at £285

Been some good feedback on the Sidis, I think they will be my next purchase.

No more pricey than Daytonas.

I have TCX's and think they're great.

Totally waterproof, comfy to walk in and feel fairly sturdy.

The only negatives are they are a bit short and the fasteners on mine keep needing adjusting as they keep moving when I take them off.

I've heard good reports on the Sidis but they are quite expensive in comparison to the other you list

Have now tried the Santiagos and the TCX's (although Fowlers of Bristol could only find one size 43! for the Infinities) and whilst the TCX's looked better the BMW's looked a better quality (particularly the clasps) but too many sad stories about leaking and I'd have to get rid of the bit of tin plate on the front. Both were comfy. Finding trouble finding a dealer with the Sidi's in Bristol to try them but hopefully now found and will try this week (Hope the inevitable increase in VAT on Tuesday doesn't mean I've left it too late!)
AS to more Daytonas I think they are very much of the comfy sofa category but when you look at them there's little protection against twisting and I suffered from that on a recent tumble so am looking to beef up that aspect and I think the Sidi's have that. I'm also looking for them to be a bit taller especially since I've fitted the potentiometer guard on the left hand side and keep bumping into it with my leg.

I am suprised that the daytonas are not repairable, I had mine sent back and the sole, goretex membrane and various leather bits were all repaired

I've had the Sidi adventure boots for a few months, at first I wasn't sure as the rubbed on my shin but that was fixed with longer socks.
So far they've been 100% waterproof and have broken in well (no longer need the long socks) being a bit of a short arse I also find they help at traffic lights

I would recommend them

My local Daytona dealer tells me they can't repair Daytonas that have a bonded gore-tex liner like mine.

SB - I would check that as I had my Datona opens (Bonded Goretex) Completely overhauled - New Goretex, New Soles and they came back like new - If you like the boots, they are repairable and I reckon I have at least another 3-4 years of daily use left in them.

Thanks Nuffsaid and I will get it checked out. I do like the boots cos they're like old carpet slippers and if it's not too dear, I might do both (i.e. repair and buy new). As a matter of interest, how much did it cost you to get them repaired?

I'd go with what others are saying about them being repairable. My mate sells them in his shop and he always says there repairable.

You need to ask somewhere else! whats your local dealer trying to sell you instead??

You need to find Tran Am, they're the importers, they'll tell you the truth. Do a google search for them. Don't think they're far from you either. They'll tell you where to take them to have them sent back as well.

Without doubt I'd stick with the daytona's. Anything else will only be a stopgap at best.

It wasnt cheap - about £150 IIRC? Given they are now like a pair of new boots though, that was a cheap option.

To those who may be interested have bitten the bullet and bought the Sidi Adventures. They were the most expensive of my 3 short list but look much the better made with quality clasps and solid ankle protection. The Infinity's were comfie but don't look that well made and the Sidi's are I think a proper hybrid between regular tourer and moto-x. The Beemers let water so everyone says and I couldn't live with that bit of tin on the front. I have to say the Sidi's do look the DB's and are comfie on the first run - not tested how well they swim yet though came close this morning over the Welsh Hills!


Have not given up on the Daytona's and have now been quoted £120 so, maybe next year!

That be him . He's a good friend, I used to help build his stands at the NEC and Ally pally shows.

Your right, he can do mail order for boots as well as leather repairs. I take it you're one of his many customers that make a day of it to pay him visits from affar?
