Why are you gutted? It'll all be replaced under warranty.

You'd be gutted if it was a KTM, they told you to fuck off, and wriggled out of any liability.

Yeah just thought buying a new bike would be without these issues so soon. Especially since I've bought all kinds of extras to protect it.
I'll give them a call next week get it looked at. 👍

Is the paint problem only in the U.k

After reading so many threads on paint issues ,which I am sorry to hear to all concerned, does it seem to be mainly a U.K issue or are other places having the same problem?Does it have anything to do with the salt on your roads.Living in Oz we don't get the cold as bad as you do and don't put salt on the roads.I haven't heard of any problems here, but would like to know if there is.

One advantage of living down under=no road salt!
Looked at a number of bikes in a BMW dealer in Germany some 3 year old G.S's one had done 20000km original engine and no corrosion.

No corrosion issue in Israel, my friend keeps the bike outside and he lives about 5 miles from the sea. Actually I never heard of any bike corrosion over there.

Well as a test, I bought mine from the UK last week and have immediately shipped it out to Cyprus (90miles on the clock) and so no road salt here. Let's see what happens....

My new engine has started corroding again after a couple of months and it hasn't seen salt or a wet road :blast

Just gutted as my 09 GSA had covered 40k and there was not one mark on it, my OCD means my bikes are extremely well looked after, costly due to the fact of what will it look like in a few year as if it keeps going like this it's resale value will be PUMP! guys I'm just gutted at my pride and joy being in such a messsssss

My local dealer said it hasn't had problems with any black motors, must be something to do with the more inclement weather they have in the south of england and excessive use of salt on the roads

Can't be a south thing I'm from up north, proper north!

Took my bike out today and reading this thread thought I'd check my engine. It's a 15plate gs with 6k on the clock and the engine is covered in white spots. Mostly where the heads mate to the engine . When is it best to raise this the dealer now or next service?

Mate I am going through a claim just now I would say do it when you have about 6 months left on the warranty cover in case the next one does it too!

It is a real shame that you swapped a great bike which was mint for a somewhat inferior one

Sale values of WC bikes have been compromised by sheer numbers out there, however I think all GS bikes are suffering value wise at present (except airheads) as 1100/1150/1200's seem to have dropped a fair bit of late

UPDATE!!
Had a phone call today and BMW have agreed to replace the bevel drive and swing arm, so that means I don't have to pay for the bevel oil change! basically at 6k/2yrs its gonna get a health check and the book stamped. The tyres need replacing, not due to corrosion but at 6k are worn out!! they don't have anakees in stock but have Tourances so I have gone with them £180 fitted. Still on course to get it back Saturday! I think im going to call it triggers broom haha. hopefully it will still have the same number on the back!!

On another note, Does anyone know what actually happens to all these engines they're taking out ?

I wonder if Triumph would have been so generous. You going to have a brand new bike, almost, will it need a 600 mile service /

They take them out the back and smash them up unless BMW specifically request the return of a particular unit.
What a waste!
