Hello there, I am new to the site and a little disturbed with regards to the engine corrosion issues. Please advise me without taking the p+++.
I have just bought a gs 1200 te '63' plate with 2k on clock and it is a minter. This bike was a private sale from someone who has cherished it and there are no signs of the dreaded yet.
Is this one of the bike likely to effected?.
I have been handed transferable bmw warranty paperwork valid until May 2018 that I need to send to BMW as the new owner. UNtil now I have always been a fair wether man but intend to ride every season from now on but concerned about what has been said on here.
Do you advise any protection for the engine?, is acf 50 the way forward or do I just leave it alone and make a claim before the end of the warranty period.
As the bike is 3 years old now will it be too late to make a claim or will my warranty cover do and cover me through to 2018 for corrosion.
As I say I am new to this site, may sound a bit thick but this is my first ever BMW, so keen to have one yet stuff on here is very concerning.
Thankyou in advance for advice. Regards Dave
Don't worry too much about what you read on forums, as they have a tendency to focus on the negative. Obviously not all bikes will be affected, far from it.
As to riding all year round, I've never used ACF50 on any of my LC GS's and haven't had corrosion on any of them. I ride all year round, and if there is salt on the road, I apply a liberal coating of FS365 before EVERY ride, then rinse the bike off with cold water when I get home.
