NEW ENGINE!

NOG = North Oxford Garage ........... where you had your engine replaced ;)

lol I'm the reason yours was cancelled! I called them yesterday to inform them then today they said they had cancelled them until they can get there act together! Lol

Yes I'm sure it's the new engine as mine is sweet as!

They are contacting BMW tomorrow to check the issue!

I'll let you know how I get on

This was the number I was given for my replacement engine in order to update the V5

122EN * 2616E018 *

Does that give any clue as to the spec of the engine they have fitted?

Whatever it means mine is the same with 024 at the end. I think they are 2016 engines

You could well be correct

My 2014my GSA's current/original engine number is 26140453

If the '14' bit of the engine number denotes the model year of the engine then that would make sense ;)

Spooky, my new engine is ...E019. Though DVLA have put EO19 in the V5.

As a newbie here I just thought I'd add my sixpenneth to the discussion.

I bought a 14 plate GS in May this year from my local dealer. Having seen some of the posts here I checked my engine and it had some paint bubbling/corrosion on the engine next to the cylinder joints and paint bubbling on the left hand cylinder head cover. I took it into the dealer for them to have a look at it, they took photos & sent them to BMW for evaluation. The bike came with a 2 year extended warranty.

BMW said they will replace the engine FOC but I will have to pay for the 600 mile service.

So after what I've read on here, I'm pleased that they will replace the engine under warranty but like most people, a bit disappointed that it needs replacing with only 12k on the clock

UPDATE!!!!!

BMW NOG called today! After a new engine last week I won't see my bike until at least the 15-20th of next month!

They can't get the new starting motor fitted until then!

Think I might get a bit pissed off !

There's no point in getting pissed off Steve as Matt and the team at NOG will be doing everything within their power to get it all sorted for you asap :thumb

The issue is with availability of the starter motor as a spare part

I had a call myself this afternoon and it would appear that the factory are now supplying 2017 motors as replacements which have different cases and starter motors. Unfortunately this hasn't filtered down to the dealer network and the old starter motors will not transfer and seal to the new crankcases. If the factory had supplied the engines with starter motors already fitted it wouldn't have been an issue :augie

Nearly ....... My GSA was due in for a replacement engine on the 12th but was cancelled due to lack of engines

It was rescheduled for tomorrow but yesterday I had a call from NOG explaining that two of the engines they had recently replaced had sprung an oil leak between the starter motor and crankcase. It would appear that BMW have altered the design of the crankcases so the original starter motors (that they swap over from the old engine) are not seating correctly and subsequently leaking engine oil. My replacement engine will now not happen until the new starter motors arrive in Berlin which apparently is the 5th Oct with delivery to the UK a week later

It's a bit frustrating as I had set aside a couple of days at the end of this week to get the motor run in and hopefully serviced on the Saturday, but never mind. These things happen :augie

PS on a more positive note I'm assuming that as the crankcases have been modified then these replacement engines must be to the latest 2017my spec (whatever that is) :nenau:D

The replacement engine in my bike came with a brand new starter already fitted so that was lucky

Very strange that it already had a starter motor fitted

WELL it is very shiny and clearly new when I picked up the bike talking to Martin in service he confirmed that the engines come complete in every way and all they have to do is un plug wires and remove mounting bolts and of course coolant hoses. I had a good look around it when I got home and indeed all of the sensors etc on the engine were shiny new! the original starter had marks on the body that are not there now. going on the speculation on the engine numbers mine is a 2016 motor
