NEW ENGINE!

Of course, I could always be talking complete and utter bollocks :augie[/QUOTE]

in my short time on this forum I have noticed that it does happen from time to time lol

I have a mate with a new 2017my GSA Triple Black and the first 4 digits of his engine number are 3516

Built in week 35 (Monday 29th August is the first day of week 35) and 16 short for 2016 (year of manufacture)

UNREAL?

Ok guys visited NOG to collect my kit from my bike, Matt spent 5 min with me trying to figure out the old/new 2017 engine questing!!

3 brand new GSA's (E4) on the shop floor one getting collected today? All with the old engine! WTF bottom line we think the only way to tell is if you have the shorter starting motor it's the 2017 E4 engine version! So far Matt has only seen one RT with this! Mental!

Guess I will just have to wait and see what I get back in a few weeks!

Does anyone actually have a clue how to tell the difference between the old and new E4 engine!

Ps don't smash me for the above just passing on what I have been told!

What's the deal with "out of warranty bikes?" - Wife and I have 2x 2013 MODELS, wifes is showing the corrosion, mine is showing nothing, clean as a whistle. No current warranty on either bikes but obviously all dealers are aware of the issue and will help if they can. How many owners have had the issue sorted on a 2013 model out of warranty?

Just read the manufacturing date on the engine number?

Mine was out of corrosion warranty but I did have an extended warranty. Sent the dealer some pics of the corrosion asking them to send to head office. Got a new engine and swing arm but had to pay installation. But with that I got a two year warranty on engine, clutch, gearbox and swingarm!

Just completed first 250 miles on the new engine... feels the same as the old one.

My 2014 GSA was 5 weeks out of warranty when the engine corrosion was brought to my attention by a fellow sufferer, there is no other corrosion on my bike and I don't have extended warranty.

I brought it to the dealer who has submitted a claim to BMW and I'm waiting to hear.

Obviously looking at it now the corrosion has been there for some time prior to being out of warranty and the dealer who both supplied and serviced the bike must have both known and seen this apparently common BMW fault in a certain batch and failed in their duty of care to bring it to the attention of the customer, so I'm not pleased.

I'd like to hear of other "just out of warranty" experiences.

Thanks.

Duty of Care? I'd have thought you would have noticed the corrosion during your regular bike washing sessions? That's how I noticed mine :thumby:

FYI there is no 'certain batch' unless you wish to refer to 13,14,15 & 16 model year bikes as a batch? :nenau

That tallies with my situation, mine was 8 weeks out of warranty. I paid £529 to dealer that included, fitting engine, 600 mile service & doing rest of stuff necessary to give it 12,000 mile service stamp.

The engine was replaced in late August, I've ridden bike 150 miles since. Seems ok, rather lost interest in it.

Thanks to both the above for their comments.....very helpful.

Any other similar "just out of warranty" experiences ?

Anyone with corrosion been offered a much enhanced trade in subsidised by BMW to encourage the purchase of a new BMW bike as an alternative to an engine change ?

I wasn't offered a 2 year warranty on my new engine fitted this June, if paid a sum towards fitting. Had it put in for free and was told to pay for new coolant and pay for the 600 mile service. Which I did. So not too sure now what warranty, if any I now have on the new engine! (3 year old GS TE).
