Hi all,

about ten years ago I bought my first motorcycle , an R 80 GS (slash somewhere paragon ?) , enjoyed it a year or so and then jumped to a TDM ( for higher speeds mainly) . Later , I moved on to a VFR and after that - till just recently - an RT 1150 ( which was IMO the best I ever had).

I never forgot about my first bike though and when the 1200 GS appeared this year I thought that this really could be the bike that I've been looking for.
So when a friend of mine asked if would like to try his for two days I eagerly accepted .

My first impression was very positive; it shifted lighter , steered lighter , was a lot faster .... in two words : great bike !
But on the second day as a grew a bit more familiar with it and riding it at really high speeds (over 200 km/h) I began to miss that secure feeling, planted you call it I think, that I had with the RT.

So when I handed it back I had some serious doubts about it but still kept looking at -and drooling over - every GS I saw.
I thought to myself that a combination of the two would be ideal : light riding , a possibility to do a little off road here and there , combined with the long distance at high speed qualities of an RT.

When I went to my dealer to have my RT serviced , I couldn't help myself circling around an 1150 adventure and wandering how it would be to ride that one . My dealer must have sensed something because suddenly he proposed to take a second-hand standard 1150 out of his showroom to let me test it.

One week later (that's two weeks ago) I took delivery of a beatiful silver adventure ....
rode it for about 2000 km (a little dirt included) and know it was the right decision, there's only one minus : driving faster than 160 km/h puts a lot of pressure on my neck , I ordered some tobinators today , hoping that with those mounted it will become the really perfect bike.

Next week we're going on a 8 day trip, presumably to the alps (or the pico's , depending on the weather)

:D :D

Nice that you like your bike, but I don't see what this has to do with the R1200GS forum? I think alot of people consider the 1200 every day, but eventually chose something else. Why did you think the ADV would be better at high speeds? Does it really do more than 160km/h at all?

It is now....I copied it over here 'cos one or two of the 12 guys are jolly rum sorts ;) :D

Welcome Zeger......you've obviously been lurking a while (slash somewhere paragon? :thumb:hapybnce: :hapybnce: )

Well done on getting the ADV...and particularly in the right colour

;)

Sorry about that mistake.

thanks Fanum for moving the post.
I've indeed been reading on these forums for quite a few months, especially the 12 forum since I really considered bying the new one.

Kave, I did not THINK it was better at high speeds , I had the chance to compare and it was more sure footed than the 12.

BTW, the friend who lend me his 12, formerly owned an adventure and agreed with me on that, he only traded it in for the 12 because of its more powerful engine.

greetings, Z
