Hi all,

Just a line to introduce myself - I've just traded in my Fazer 1000 and become the proud owner of a shiny new 1200GS (in blue, grey and black, of course!! ;) ). I picked it up from SPC last week and I'm absolutely loving it - the only "niggles" so far being the well documented screen noise, and the fact that the side of my boot has already rubbed away a strip of paint from the frame above the footpeg. Has anyone else suffered a similar problem?

Anyway, I live on the Isle of Wight but ride on the mainland a lot too, so I hope to meet some of you on rideouts/meets before too long.

Cheers, Tony

Yep :)

welcome tony

the strip of paint problem appears again. ive not had it but supect it is either something to do with the boots worn or some of you guys are moving in your seats for the leans.

as for the screen noise...... try adjusting the angle of it...... ;) also so many go on about the screen berlin should make a full faring 1200 for those that moan to tuck in out the wind completely.

on the subject of wind that is the only major weakness i have found....... one is very exposed to sudden gusts from the flanks. a weakness in the riding position. i'm told by KTM riders i'll get used to it.

your bike will get better the closer you get to 6000mls.

enjoy.

ps keep checking that oil...... a 1200 boxer can use as much as 1L of oil every 600mls to start with....... an expectation set by berlin.

Code name Berlin

Who is this Berlin fellow, a mate of Captain Slog?

and then it all became clear...

and there was me building a shrine that had me arse pointing toward Garmisch.

I'll fetch my coat...

:o

Thanks for the welcome and comments guys. The bike goes in for its 600 mile service tomorrow, when I'll be raising the issue of the paint wear with SPC. In answer to Joyseeker's observation, I've personally been wearing my boots underneath cordura trousers - and I've not been moving in the seat much during cornering (so far! ;) ). Irrespective of that though, in my opinion it does seem that the paint finish is inadequate - or, at least, that there should be some protective film in the area, bearing in mind that one's boot / overtrouser will almost inevitably touch the frame in the spot in question. After all, it's taken less than a week of riding for the paint to be worn away to the bare metal!

I've tried the screen in every position - the highest one seems to work best for me - but, that said, the wind noise rather than the buffeting experienced by some, is still a bit of a problem for me... maybe I'll get used to it, or failing that I'll experiment wih an after market larger screen.

Gavin, may see you for a natter sometime if we bump into each other (not literally!!!) during a rideout! The tea caravan at the viewpoint carpark on the Military road is a regular haunt of mine!!

Cheers, Tony

paint coming off by the pegs

i been thinking about this and feel, ok, paint should not be easily ribbed off the frame.

BUT, this means you are not riding on the balls of your feet TONY!

the peg should only come halfway across your toe knuckle line before the little toe.

never full on and never in the small of your foot.

just think when you do this you can leap better away from the bike when trouble appears infront of you or when you think you are going to bin it.....;)

Tony good to meet up with you today at SPC. definitely look you up in IOW when I get there.

Tony, did you ever follow up on the worn paint issue with your dealer?

I'm noticing the same on mine now and wonder where I stand with getting it sorted.

I found I was rubbing the finish of the shaft housing until I adjusted the way I rest my feet on the footrests ever so slightly, it worked for me.

Get some of these for buffeting, they work.

Torbinators

Anyway enjoy, you're love it!
