OK...bought a splendid R100rs ( naked ) from top bloke off this site ( was going down the 650 xcountry route but then saw this and just had to have it - photos as soon as camera fixed :) )
Now, going to ride it until knee op at end of month then start to play with her during to winter etc.

I will be painting the bike army green as in the pic ( not sure if rattle tins or get it sprayed etc. I'll be doing tank/side panels/front guard. My shopping list is a pair of round rocker covers and love the silencers on the pic attached....anyone know where I can source a pair ?

Bike is a credit to previous owner so little or no fettling is required ( this is a first for me when buying an airhead :D )

Mine has virtually new road tyres on but intend to fit TKC80's

Still has the RS handlebars so may fit GS type bars as well.

Already have RS bars fitted...just more 'normal' bike handlebars etc., ( but thanks anyway ) :thumb2

Some pics.....I'll ride until end of the month then probably start pulling her apart

Needed the headstock tightening up and a few little bits n bobs but she is a good un ( unleaded heads/scriminger carbs etc ) :thumb2
Went for a run...only firing on one after a short burst; spark plug cap loose/goosedreplaced that but still running a bit limp......carbs well mucked up inside (bike not been used for a while so tipped out petrol and put shiny new stuff in ) ...then petrol *issing out so needed new ( from my personal stores :augie ) carb gaskets...then noticed the engine was loose  But getting there:bounce1

Probably going to lose the screen.........

Also ( thanks MikeO ) now have two new rocker covers en-route and ordered handlebars/grips/special bits...so jobs looking a good un ! Just need a source for some cherry bomb type silencers and advice and guidence re hand painting the 'special' in a quality nato-type green silk paint !

Try and get satin as matt just marks every time you rub/push/scrape against it... I have extensive satin black experience in my search for eternal style...:D

Enough of Wrigsbys fetishes for now !! :D

Still was running poorly on left side so took the carb off and adjusted the float height ( to what it should be :augie ) cleaned out the choke disc on the rear of the carb...just a smidges of adjustment on the mixture and she is now running like a good 'un :bounce1

Keeping the RS bars on her for now as I've taken a liking to them (but we'll see)...also fitted new mirrors and handgrips:)

So, TKC's on order/round rockers en-route/service items ordered/ canvass army panniers en-route/ satin drab olive paint en-route....so there's enough for me to be getting on with

Incidently...I have one of those wonderful Odyssey batteries fitted ( I know it has been discussed worldwide ) but IS it OK to charge them up on an Optimate battery charger ?

Must be, surely. The Optimate puts 0.4A or so into the battery until it gets to 14.4v then backs off to a 13.8v float charge. If the Odessey won't take that, the bike charging system is going to make it very unhappy... Are you just wanting to charge it up, or are you worrying about long-term effects of the float voltage through the winter?

But if the Optimate declares the battery un-chargeable the diagnosis might not be reliable.

The optimates won't deliver enough current to charge a flat odyssey. I think the glass mat batteries can draw upto 20a when flat. They also have a lower terminal voltage than lead acid batteries so the electronics in smart chargers don't work too well with it. To be honest I had an odyssey battery in my 1100gs for 3 years and topped it up with an optimizer without any issues I didn't leave it on trickle though.

There shouldn't be any need to use a trickle charge on your airhead unless you have a clock on it and even then it would take weeks to drop the voltage down.

Connect up the Optimate overnight every few weeks if you're worried. Just remember to disconnect the Optimate from the battery, not just turn it off at the mains (otherwise it'll discharge the battery through the charger).

Yep, AGM batteries have different absorb and float voltages from wet batteries (and solar charge controllers are switchable for that) but the bike's charging system makes no distinction so a once in a while boost with the charger you have handy probably isn't a big deal...

Thanks guys, I'm not a trickle charger fan..I only wanted to give the battery a boost as she hasn't run properly for some time...still plenty of charge in there though:) Optimate III seems to be working so I'll leave that on for the day.

Ta :thumb2

Good day today...also including converting the OE RS handle bars to Renthal ultra low sports bars:cool:.. I think it looks a lot better :thumb2 RS handlebars are now For Sale ( well helps pay for my :)

Also fitted the Siebenrock roundrocker covers
( n/s needed two gaskets  ) courtesy of Mike_O :thumb2
Took the oportunity to set the valve clearances ( inlet a tad to tight ) and tighten up the exhaust flanges ( both were just past hand tight only)

I think she is coming along nicely......just awaiting the 'army' paint and she'll be almost finished :bounce1

Incidently, tis my intention to fit TCK 80's to the bike......obviously the rear is a 4.00 X 18 ...... has anyone fitted this tyre to the rear of their twin shock...had a look at the caliper steady bar and it is very close to the standard tyre.....could someone measure the outside width of the actual rubber so I'll know it it will fit; shame it it doesn't !

:beerjug:

Kenny will ya take those STUPID alloy braces off or paint them black they look schiter than a big bag of schite things!

Otherwise coming along nicely

May one suggest Sir has a "look see" at K60 scouts they are quite meaty and most bodacious!
