Any tips - recommendations greatly appreciated.

Warm it up to operating temp by riding it gently. Get out of town and ride around in hills or mountains. Accelerate, brake, change gear etc with skill and a song in your heart. Don't lug or thrash it.

I drove mine for 500 miles, had it serviced then loaded it up with the missus and luggage and hammered it to Luxembourg

That worked nicely:)

2102 model eh? looks very much like a current model :D :D

Just follow the running in that it says in the manual :thumb

Keep it under 6000 rpm , vary the speed , dont slog it in 6th gear . Some say a harsher run in is better than being too gentle , I've always run mine in a bit harder and they have never used oil:thumb2

Don't be too gentle and rev it resonably hard through the gears. Don't sit on the motorway for long stretches and stick to A roads where you are up and down the box.

Quick oil change at 300 miles to clear the shit out and then repeat above procedure.

In for it's 600 service then thrash the shit out of it:thumb

A-A

As above on most and add a pillion if you can? it adds load and does help make you use the box. Accelerate gently up long hills to put it underload(see hand book)

Was told by my dealer to leave my first service(oil change) untill near 1000 miles to help with bedding in.

All worked for me, as it burns next to no oil unlike my first two.

Enjoy it- the twin cam is better.

It's all covered in the manual and a harsher regime than you would imagine.

Doing it properly ( and not being over gentle with it) will affect your oil consumption.

I have 300 miles on my GSA and am having trouble running it hard enough to comply.

With respect to previous respondents some of the above replies seem to me to be guesses.

As already stated don't treat her too gently (My Mistake) & used loads of oil, gave it some hard riding & issue solved.

CW's in Dorchester once told me that the only bikes they had issues with were customers own. Their demonstrators gave them no troubles as they were thrashed mercilessly from day one. Make of that what you will. :)

I had a Fiat Seicento that was slow (I meain painfully slow) and not very good on petrol. But I needed transport. It came from a mate who used it on the narrow lanes in South Wales and for shopping. He bought it from a local district nurse.

I thrashed the wotsits off it (no choice with a 40bhp engine) and within a month it was spinning nicely and using less petrol. The poor car had been trundled about slowly from day one Even after 40K miles the engine was tight. A good hard using sorted it out.

The way folks drive these days, there will be a lot of cars on the roads just like that.

Just ride it like you stole it............! Well, not like you stole it exactly but you know what I mean!:thumb

Having said that i treated mine like a pussy and it's fine!:D

Actually not quite. The dealers run in the demonstrators before letting the customers loose on them. The manual has you from sub 5,500 revs for 125 miles to brief bursts of full power within 600 miles. I have no intention of thrashing any vehicle I own mercilessly from day one. :rob

The Tiger Explorer I took a demo on wasn`t, it had 10 miles on it!

I tend to run mine in by the book but I take them over the passes round here so the get a good working :thumb2

Actually I took a demo out once that had less than 100 miles recorded on it. :nenau

Oh PLEASE ! Not that old chestnut.

My GSA cost around £16,000 and I'm expected to rip the guts out of it in the first few minutes? Not in a million fecking years would I do that.

Read the response from the guy who was Warranty Manager of Volvo in the USA.

RTFM

:blast

I just rode mine normally and at 2300miles its not used a drop of oil first service was at 750 miles.

Dont worry just ride it and dont do anything silly like half a mile long wheelies:D
