Lords, Ladies, Gentlepeople & Tossers (now there is a start line for a wedding speach!)

I know this has probably been addressed before, but I cannot find the thread :blast

I am trading my 1200GS for a 1200GSA :bounce1 Due to pick it up in a week and wanted to know if there are any hints and tips on the "running in" bit ...

My GS already had 20,000 on the clock when I got it and it was nice and loose, didnt use too much oil ...etc. I realise the new beast will take a little time (and miles) to settle in, but just wondered what wizdom there was out there ... :rob

Ta muchly

Use the 'search' facility then :blast

for example I searched woth the word 'running' in the thread title in the 1200 section and found 48 threads.

this was just one of the results

I got a new gsa in January and 5000 miles later it hasnt used any oil.I ran it in for the first 600 miles not driving hard up tru the gears and just beeing sensible. It is more responsive now and has not given me any trouble.JJH

Run it in fairly hard and don`t bimble around. Use the rev range, use the gearbox and don`t let it labour.

I also changed the oil at 300 miles just to clear out any crap that may have got in there.

Worked for me because mine hasn`t used a drop of oil and has run like a gream for 46,000 miles:D

Thanks JJH. Did you do town miles or open road miles during the run in?

both I commute contry to city. I would not get too worried about running in the bike just be sensible and enjoy.Everybody seems to agree dont labour the engine but u dont do that just change down a gear or 2 JJH

As above really, just make sure she's good an warm before you give it any beans, at least ten mins. Mine uses half litre of oil every 6k which is bang on what the owners guide says. Enjoy! :beerjug::beerjug:

Real easy 20 miles, then ride it like you stole it but remember deceleration is as important as acceleration to bed the rings in,ride it like a bitch and expect to be shelling out £8 a ltr every 1000miles:blast
