I and two mates all have brand new r1250gs bikes. All three bikes have leaking callipers. Between us we’ve probably owned over 40 brand new bikes with hydraulic brakes. Not one of those bikes have needed the brake seals imbedded/ broken in, so I call bullshit on your theory. I believe that the change to Hayes callipers was most likely done on a cost cutting basis and BMW took a chance on fitting cheap, poor quality parts. A bad decision. Not to defend the great products and build quality that made in usa implies...
But I had 2 1250 GS , first ADV and now regular and none of them leaked...the bikes need to be ridden and seals imbedded/broken in and then nothing will leak even sitting in a garage during winter months.
I have to say one thing though these Hayes calipers feel much better as in less spong and less free travel than the previous Brembo callipers on the 1200GS...![]()
