Hi mate,

Excellent news. Are you asking how to share the music between units? If so, press the jog dial to start an intercom session, start to play the music on the sat nav, push and hold the jog dial on the unit paired with the sat nav for a few seconds and it should start sharing.

Something I found with my Garmin was that although the music shares to the other unit the turn instructions don't as this sound is treated like a phone call. This has the effect of interrupting the music for you and your passenger but them being left in silence while you get the navigation instructions. Not a fault as it is doing what it is supposed to, but not quite what I wanted!

Just had an answer from Sena saying the issue I'm having with noise in my Ultimate Ears in-ear monitors is due to hardware, the latest batch of 20S units with serial numbers ending in 1407 will cure this. I can't get a warranty return directly from Sena as they are in the USA so I have to do the leg work with the UK supplier I bought them from and hope they can help. Still no answer on the crap FM radio reception problem either.

£420 to be a beta tester, I think the designer of the R1200GS must have changed jobs and gone to work on bike comms.

Caveat emptor folks.

Such a shame it's hardware as I bought a pair expecting the software may be buggy and as time went on it would improve :(

I bought a set from the EU shop, used them for a trip to Austria, they worked until the last day and one of the sets wouldnt work, or at least worked intermittently. I tried to phone Sena EU with no success and then bombarded them with emails to US and via their facebook page. Eventually a guy from the EU office emailed and offered to replace the sets. They used Fedex, who cocked up and never collected the old sets. I notice the new serial nos begin 1407, so that may be good news according to the earlier post.

Now to register, update and set up......

So it arrived a couple of hours ago.
Charged up and updated. nice to see 2 instruction inserts on saying "these units are pre paired and ready to use" and the other saying you must update the firmware and re-pair.

Seemed ok until the intermittant drop out of music over BT from my phone. When paired with pillion and music sharing on, the music stutters all the time.
They can't all do this, so I suspect Sena have a real quality control issues.

real shame, but it looks like its going to have to go back. I think I might go for a refund and try again in a few months when they have got things debugged. either that of the tried and trusted SM10?

I thought before I returned these, I'd double check in case I was the problem. Just the same - music sharing complete rubbish. So I watched the video about it to check I'd done it all right.
No I did everything right - and music sharing was sh*t. Oh except I didn't put up the silly aerials. Clearly with the units 8 inches apart on the desk that won't make any difference, but I'd better do it so I have tried everything.
Err well - I can now report music sharing works fine but ONLY with the little aerials up.

I thought Sena always stated the antenna needed to be up to enable music sharing? I guess this is to do with the high bandwidth of the stereo music signal. Not a huge issue for me I must admit.

Well if they did - they are right! I don't recall reading that - but as a bloke I regard reading half the instructions as more then necessary

Spoke to the resellers and emailed my correspondence with Sena. They have agreed to replace my 20S Dual kit with a newer set once they have some stock. I just wonder how many folks have also got one of the initial batch and are unaware of issues with the hardware.

If you have a set with a serial number beginning in 1406, log a complaint on the Sena support pages and also contact the dealers/sellers to arrange replacement.

Hi chap,

I have tried to log a ticket with the Sena help desk but have had no reply at all yet. I have also mentioned it to the Cliff at Adventure Bike Shop and he is raising it with Sena Europe to make sure they are warmed up to replace. If you can share your email exchange with sena that may help move things along.

To be honest it is not so bad in mine to make them unusable, just a little niggle. Overall I really like them and now I have added a few tweaks to the system (more expense!) I get all the functionality of my old Autocom with more flexibility and less cables.

Matt :)

Sena are pretty busy so you may have to wait for a reply on their support pages.

Here's (some of) what they said to me:

Adam Puk
Tristan,
Any updates regarding the noise in my monitors? I had heard on the support forums that a hardware change is necessary and I need to return my 20S units in exchange for improved hardware. Is there any truth in this?
Regards
Adam

Hello Adam,
The issue was attained the main unit. The issue is, our warranty office is in the US. So please contact your reseller to get a replacement. We can get a replacement for you, but there would be shipping charges incurred to you and it would be time consuming.
So any unit with the serial number start with 1407 will have this fix.

Tristan

So let me get this straight. My unit ends in 1406 so needs replacing with a 1407 because the original product is actually not fit for purpose? I am expected to do all the leg work in getting a replacement because your product is not working properly?
I didn't realise I was paying £420 to be a beta tester for Sena products, and I am less than impressed. What happens if the 1407 needs replacing in the future with a 1408/9/10 to fix the FM radio issues etc?

Hello Adam,
That's why I recommend to contact your reseller to avoid the shipping cost and time. As much as I do wish to help you and get everything working well, I am limited to what I can do.

Turns out the units marked 1407 are manufactured in July 14, so 1408 will be August 14 and so forth.......

Update:

I now have a set of replacement units thanks to the importers, have updated the firmware to version 1.2 and I'm about to start testing the units to see if the issues I had are resolved. The good news is that the audio quality with in-ear monitors is now clear and free of interference.

I'm pleased to say that my new Sena 20S units with 1408 serial numbers and V1.2 firmware are superb (the last ones should be destroyed by Sena, they were pants):

The audio quality is now spot on. Audio levels can go all the way up to LOUD.
FM radio works. Presets work. Reception is good so far. (This is with the helmet speakers already removed as I use monitors instead.)
Intercom works between units (both 20S units).
GPS (Zumo 660) paired as a second mobile phone mutes music automatically when giving audio instructions.
Music sharing works.

Not had an opportunity to try pairing with non-Sena branded bluetooth comms (which it could do) or other Sena units (it handles up to 8). I intend to buy an SR10 bluetooth radio interface with PTT for my Kenwood PMR radio then pair the Zumo and Kenwood through that, but it can wait for now.

A point worthy of note is that I had trouble getting music sharing to work. I did as instructed and held the jog dial button until I heard three beeps then released, but didn't hear a "Music sharing" voice prompt. Repeated and still no luck.......I then went to the pillion helmet which had music playing and repeated the hold for three beeps and it then streamed music to both helmets from my iPhone 4S via bluetooth.

I presume whichever helmet gets the music stream first has to then be set to sharing, that wasn't made clear in the Youtube video from Sena. Also, it is advisable to raise the little flip up antennas to improve audio streaming, and if you compare helmets there is a tiny delay between each helmet audio almost like a 'reverb' as each unit processes the bluetooth audio data at slightly different times.

Hope any other 'early adopters' (aka Beta testers) like myself get some benefit from the above.

Thanks for the report. I will push on and get a replacement pair.

Matt :)

You might have a wait Matt, the UK importer said that high demand for the units by Sena dealers meant delays in receiving stock. Obviously contact whoever you purchased them through for a warranty replacement in the first instance.

Luckily mine are fairly usable in the meantime, but I will try to get them swapped soon. Did you swap the whole lot it just the units? Having to gather all the bits together will be a pain in the arse!

I thought I had stopped being a beta tester when I sold the GS and got the Yam, but it seems not.

Thanks again,

Matt

Just the bare units only, supplied in bold NOT FOR SALE packaging as they are warranty items and not general resale items. Two were delivered to me at home personally by the official UK importers this afternoon (Saturday) which I thought was decent of them on a weekend. I had made quite a stink with the supplying dealer (not the importer)which I won't go into on this forum.

Obviously I can't keep the old units as it is a warranty replacement and they now belong to Sena and have been taken in exchange by the importer. I have registered the new units online with SENA.

The importers expressed a genuine wish to prevent any ill feeling in what is basically a matter that is out of their hands and which they are working hard to resolve. I feel they deserve a 'well done' for doing their bit to resolve something which was beyond their control, but for which they are accountable as UK agents.

It might be worth you updating your current unit(s) to the new firmware (Version 1.2) as the audio volume is adjustable plus a few other improvements and features. The SENA update manager software application also needs updating via a web download.

Thanks for the info. Good to know the UK importers are doing their best. Maybe my warranty replacement will be along shortly...

Matt
