New triple blacks have arrived

My bike is about to have its second engine fitted due to corrosion. Don't get me wrong BMW customer service is excellent given that my bike and current engine are out of the corrosion warranty, and I'm happy to be getting a brand new engine! it must be costing them a fortune though!

This was outside at Vines today

What I'd like to know, Shaun, is why that GSA has an HX plate?

OK, t'internet says Hants and Dorset. I'd wondered where Trevor's R had come from with its H? prefix. Now I know - Vines in Surrey's county town is almost Hampshire. Ish.

On any other forum, a poll would be a good idea, but you just know that on here there would be non owners voting, just for a laugh.

Although it seems like there have been a lot on here, I'd be surprised if more than around 20 on this forum have have their engines replaced due to corrosion.

BMW sold 2699 R1200GS/GSA in 2015 in the UK the bike has been out about 3 years so about 7000 bikes since the LC came out the GSA was the old model for the first year 2013

Some UK LC owners are on this site out of the 7000 LC model bikes in the UK its estimated that 20 bikes are known by members here or known to members and had engine changes yet world wide on 125k of sales its less than 100 engine changes in total who are they trying to kid some bikes have had more than one change

We know its a minimum of 20+ engine changes per 7000 bikes just from changes we know of here and the UK sales figure I think the real figure could be as much as 10x the official and the number of bikes effected will be far greater due to owners who are not bothered its a rental.

Why the assumption that someone who is renting a vehicle wouldn't want it to look good?

By the way a PCP is not renting it is a purchase scheme with benefits.

It was said earlier in post 53 that some people with bikes on PCP may not be bothered and the poster refereed it as renting in their comment it was to link to their post as another reason all problems may not be reported

Renting? .... PCP is exactly that unless you make the last lump sum payment

Someone at BMW will have the figures as to how many PCP punters end up actually buying their bikes but I would hazard a guess it is less than half with the majority either walking away from the brand completely or entering in to another PCP arrangement

The PCP deals are designed so when you hand it back if you decide to get another the PX value above the final figure is just enough for the deposit on a new one so you have a choice walk away with nothing or carry on paying and have a new one your deposit is covered.

Most people just get another so they dont loose the deposit difference and the cycle starts again :D

I've never heard of anyone having equity in any vehicle at the end of a finance agreement. The final payment figure is normally over inflated to keep the monthly payments down, for those that can't afford to buy the bike the traditional way.

I have with a few cars the figures were designed this way to keep the punter with the brand the dealer offers more than the settlement to ensure another sale

Final equity = dealer spread in other words.

Saying that I did end up with 2k on my k1600 but most likely because I pulled out after 2 years rather than 3...

So firstly you heard that less than 100 engines have ever been replaced under warranty and now you've never heard of equity left over in a vehicle at the end of its term.

Have you considered having your hearing tested??
