newbie GS 1250. need advice!

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
Thanks for everyone’s input, I took everyone’s advice and I’ve decided to go via motoraad and buy a used approved!! Rallye TE , 8k miles, excellent condition and with a centre stand!!!
Rode 275miles (from the Wirral) down on me part ex tiger and 275 back in the same day (horrible 🤣) but least the journey back was alot more joyful 😃 Bought from Brighton motoraad (dealt with Martyn) and they were fantastic, highly recommended.
So much better than the tiger it’s almost day and night, handling is unreal in comparison and the torque is diesel like 🤣

After some more advice now… the charging side of it. I have a optimate 3 with a din end. Is that safe to plug into the din socket on the Left side of the bike as I’ve heard of the canbus system and didn’t wanna damage the electrics. Ideally I wanna utilise my optimate that I used on the tiger.

Many thanks

Enjoy your new bike :) (y) as for battery charging I personally just connect a fly lead straight to the battery & plug the optimate in every now & again .
Thanks.
Does your fly lead have a inline fuse that connects to the battery?

Thanks.

Mine does, there's a red battery post behind the right hand black triangular side panel you can connect to to save taking the battery out and use the negative on the battery for the other connection.

Here's the type I have

Much better than using a din socket plus you can also use it for heated clothing and a tyre inflator like the airman pump which canbus will likely switch off if yiu try to blow a tyre up with it as that has an upper limit of a 5a drain.

That’s great point, I’ll get one of them and fit it, especially with the tyre inflator as mine has the same end. Cheers

Hey @gregski :)

That's what the DIN plug is for, among other things. So if you have a DIN charger, go for it (y)

I too like @clutchspring and @GSMarky use a fly lead connected to my battery, but that's only because I'm too cheap to buy a new Optimate with DIN capability haha

Have a good look at engine casings for corrosion. this age and model do suffer wiyth extensive corrosion if not looked after. This could be why it has sat so long. if corroded, walk away.
