Newbie Question.

Yeah, and measure across the cylinder heads too, as they’re a wee bit more fiddly to change

Don’t worry that was thought of.

Turns out they are a bit narrower than the bars.

Still if I have a long enough run at it and get up enough speed it’ll get through :D

Yessss.

Zoltan if you read this can you measure the maximum width of your bike or if anyone has access to an r1250r or r1200r can they do so? (They probably have a bike in the shop I’m buying it from but it’s a bit away)

Thanks again all.

On my 1250GS measurements:

81cm with the hand guard, the two bolts at each end of the bar ends stick out about 2/3 mm at each end, so make it 82cm in total, I have Wunderlich bar raiser. Maybe you can cut out a bit from the post on one side?

I had the same experiance with my hexhead,

Bar wiggling on a gs is a pain in the arse.

I moved the gate posts ( wooden bits ) and that helped for about a week

Then i went Rambo, borrowed a disc cutter and chopped 6 inches of the wall, built a new gate and :)

Its easy really , do you want the bike or not, if you want the bike, you'll do whatever it takes to get it through the gate :D

Back again.

I’m either keen to get this bike or just a masochist.

I can get Helibars at 760mm ( and 500 odd quid!!!) which would solve all my problems at the top of the bike but that transfers it to lower down.

I did measure across the heads when I was in the shop but I’ve forgotten what it was because I was concerned more about the bars. I know it was narrower but I forgot by how much.

Could anybody do me a favour and measure across the heads included crash bars?

Thanks again all for your input.

Would it not be easiest to go for a test ride on the bike *, tootle past your house and see if you can fit it in the gap?

* or one the same.

Why are you complicating things?:D

I can’t get a test on it til next Friday as the bikes booked into the workshop so I’ll just have to hold off.

Is it in the workshop to change the non standard narrow bars currently fitted (by the previous owner), back to the standard original bars..

:D
