Came across this and found a few interesting points, corrosion etc, :yikes so let the screaming start


Long-term tire aging and wheel corrosion: advantage for nitrogen

Air is 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, with the remainder being trace gases. Oxygen can retain moisture inside your tires and eventually can oxidize the internal tire wall casing, causing premature tire aging. In extreme cases, the moisture can even cause the tire’s steel reinforcing belts to rust. If the wheel’s paint protection is damaged, this can also promote rust in steel wheels.

Nitrogen, on the other hand, is an inert, dry gas and does not support moisture. The use of 93-95% pure nitrogen will prevent premature tire aging and wheel corrosion due to internal moisture. However, some experts say that under normal driving conditions, a tire’s tread will reach its minimum usable depth long before any effect of oxidation on the tire wall or wheel rust. Although nitrogen has the technological advantage here, the practical benefit is minimal under normal driving conditions. It may be beneficial if your car is not driven regularly or is placed in storage.
 
It's only real advantage is utilised on aircraft, as it is an inert gas it prevents wheel brake fires spreading. It is more expensive than air and select garages or tyre fitting places only also youll end up replacing it with normal air if you adjust tyre pressures for on/off road.
Pretty pointless in my opinion
 
It's a fad to give some bikers yet more bragging rights to a problem that doesn't exist for road conditions. One of the advantages in racing is less pressure sensitivity with temperature changes hence more predictable grip which is AFAIK why racing teams may use Nitrogen. Longer term, Nitrogen is less likely to migrate through micro-porous tyre walls (apparently). There's little to no chance of most people's tyres prematurely ageing to the point it becomes a problem due to using air over an inert gas. Your tyres will wear out long before that ever becomes a real issue. UV degradation may be more problematical for those who don't have a garage (long exposure can harden compounds and reduce grip levels) but even then not until 2 or 3 years have passed from fitting new rubber. Nitrogen won't prevent that. Air is free and good enough!
 
Nitrogen is most definitely not inert!!

And it is easy to dry air - just draw it through Sulphuric Acid.

Out of my depth that, but I noticed the tyre people put Nitrogen in the new Suzuki car, however they said not to mix, so if you get a puncture, you would have to let all the air out, seems pointless, and a shit post now me-thinks.
 
I wished my tyres lasted long enough for corrosion of the internal structure to occur.
 
It’s marketing

Before filling a tyre with nitrogen it already contains it’s own internal volume of air at ambient pressure (roughly 1 bar at sea level)

So unless you fit your tyres in a vacuum they will always have a percentage of air in them anyway
 
I wonder if you could fill the rear arm with Nitrogen to keep it nice and dry inside ?.. :green gri so that does not eat itself as they tend to do! ;)

Nitrogen is ‘inert’ but all inert gasses react to some extent.
