It is all to do with the molecular size and permeability through a membrane.
However for normal use in car tyres it is a total waste of money.

... Nitrogen is definitely not inert with the right conditions.
How a bit of gas, can get so many expert opinions, beats me.![]()
Nitrogen is most definitely not inert!!
And it is easy to dry air - just draw it through Sulphuric Acid.
'Relatively inert' is the phrase we're struggling towards. To quote the infamous wiki "reaction with hydrogen (H2) using a metal catalyst under high temperatures and pressures:
Before the development of the Haber process, ammonia had been difficult to produce on an industrial scale"
Inert, I don't think so. Low on the reactivity scale...yes bit of a difference I'd say.

That’s because he pretends he knows, then googles it - and then has to muddle his words to make it look like he was saying that all the time..................
Indeed but relative to what?![]()
More inert than halogens, less than noble gasses.

There’s also a new super bulshit gas. JJH
This puzzles me. So how does oxygen exist in the air? Based on your comments, not in an elemental state - because unlike nitrogen, we know it is highly reactive? At STP, very inert relative to most other gaseshence the reason it exists as an elemental gas in the atmosphere.
I can see agreement converging.

Genuine question. Chemistry ain't my thing. But your comments started me thinking...

Thanks. But that I get...Most of the oxygen is produced as a by product of transpiration by plant life, it gets used up by you breathing and iron rusting etc(oxidation). Evolution has kept life , up until now at a nice balance of production/comsumption of O2 at 20.8% of the atmosphere. chopping down lots of trees and burning lots of stuff is not helping the balance. Enjoy it whilst you can.
