No Neutral Light

Hi, the neutral light has stopped coming on (R1200GS 2007). I can start bike fine with side stand up and clutch in. All other gears show up as normal.

My question is: is it worth me changing the gear position sensor on the back of the gear box myself or should I take it to my local dealer in South Devon.

I have taken it off and cleaned it with WD, but no joy.

Sorry should have also mentioned that the LCD "N" is not showing as well as the green "N"

It's the gear indicator switch on the back of the box. You can liberally spay it with WD40 to see if that cleans it up but my opinion would be for you just to get a new one sorted asap because it will let you down.

OK thanks. I have taken it off and cleaned with no luck. If I buy a new one, Is it as simple as fitting a new gear indicator, reconnecting and starting bike?

It is simple to do but fiddly to get at not much room between s/arm & engine,I had probs with one n my 1st GS sorted it with a clean sealed up using a bit of silicone round the seal.
Should be a fit & forget with replacement it's a potentiometer no chips or highend gizmos involved

I had to get mine plugged in at SSB to reset mine as I didn't work out of the box. You could be lucky though as mine didn't indicate any gears.

Get your dealer or a mate with a GS911 to reset adaptive values.

A potentiometer is cheap and reliable and software is easy to manipulate.

Exactly! Canbus and computer control is about less overall cost for the factory. It isn't about the end user's convenience. But saying that the Suzuki GT750 used a multi contact hear position sensor. Simple contacts for each gear with a moving wiper and notoriously unreliable.
