no sounds

The volume thingy has gone off my task bar. I cant turn it back on in the customise menu, as it is greyed out. Does anyone know whats gone FUBAR and how to sort it......windows 7 by the way,

START>CONTROL PANEL> then it could be one of a good few options, depending on your hardware etc.....SOUND, Realtek HD Audio manager for example, or the Soundblaster version, or possibly under device manager>sound, video and game controllers, it might be a hardware device that's turned off.


It'll be there, but could take a bit of digging around to find the right tick box or setting, especially if you've got a decent sound card or some form of extra controller prog in the mess :comfort

If that fails, you can try going back into device manager and un-installing anything to do with sound, then re-boot PC and let it sort itself out.

Have you added anything to PC recently, like a new mouse or some other bit of hardware?
 
cheers for the reply. Not added anything to it. just happened. I will have a look....slight problem.....i have no idea what i am looking at.
 
Greyed out means all the little electric pixies inside are having a little sleep, best turn the computer off for a while until they are rested. Turn it back on again later when they are all awake and ready.
