Well said that man. It may be his opinion, but it certainly isn't factual or truthful.

He would sh!t himself if he saw me riding around on full Moto-x tyres on my KL250 a few years ago. Wet roundabouts were enormous, erm...fun!

Always use knobblies, GS's were always on TKC's and they only cost the insurance company £3k once :D TTR was on MT21's and was great on warm tarmac. GS's are supposed to be 'adventure' bikes and be able to run straight off tarmac onto gravel and dirt.
 
I've said it before and I will say it again, if you can't ride safely on tkc's then you can't ride. End

Off road tires on Tarmac are false economy and definitely are not safe for you and others ! By any means you can use them as I did but they are not performant and definitely you are more likely to put your life in danger !
I will rathe take the bus and be safe then put my life at risk !
During my life as a bike rider I had the chance to see and here some horrible scenarios and I also experience them but thanks god I am here , healthy and happy !

I agree.

However, TKC80s and all the other tyres mentioned in this thread ARE designed for the road. They're not off road tyres.
 
Quick up date since I posted about changing from Tourances to k60.

Front end defo not a planted as the previous tyre. A lot lighter feeling too, easier to turn and therefore more twitchy at low speeds.

Am considering swapping back weekdays once I get my other wheel sorted. Mind not had long enough yo decide fully yet. Weather bring poop.

Back end fine though so it'll stay a k60.
 
I am calm. I've never heard so much tosh, even in the 1200 section. And posting from my phone I don't have the full range of smileys, so the :banghead: was the closest I could find to what I actually wanted....

No idea what a proper knobbly officially is but if I could choose between the tyres on my GS-( metzelers I think)- which are great for gravel tracks- but not mud, and terrific for the road- and a pure set of noisy, vibey, unpredictable knobblies it would be the road tyres. They are not supercorsas but real world tyres that work on and ( a bit ) offroad.

But they dont look as cool............:augie

Hi All,

Just an update for you regarding the Knobblies debate..........

Since I started this tread back in January, I have changed from a 1200GSA to an 1150GSA on which all summer I have used Torances.

However at the beginning of November I fitted a loverly set of new TKC80's (Road legal nobblies) for a 3000 mile trip around Spain and France.

During the trip, I ventured up into the back roads of the Pyrennes and also the Pico's where I met snow and some pretty rough conditions.

All I can say is I'm delighted with the TKC80's, they were not noticeably noiser or any more vibration than the Tourance's on the long road sections and when it got tricky up the mountain passes, they were fantastic !!

So I'm a convert and will probably now run the GSA on TKC's all the time, yes they wear a bit quicker (4k on rear) but they turn the GS into what it was built for...a true go anywhere machine.

Mine is a 2 wheel Chelsea tractor so the nearest its likely to get to knobblies is a PR3 trail version.

My last bike with road legal knobblies handled like a skateboard and the tyres clogged with mud so it skated about off road as well.
