I've noticed that when the fuel level drops below 2 bars on the gauge, the fuel pump starts to make a whirring/whining noise ... not very loud but certainly audible. I've not really noticed it until recently.

Is this normal? Bike is an 02 R1150GS with 19k on.

they all do that sir....

just the manufacturer's subtle method of reminding you to start looking for a petrol station. Clever or what.?.....mine's always done it, with no ill-effects to date but it is a black one...

Noisy fuel pump?

It's still under warranty Take it back to your local dealer-I did and they've ordered me a new one to be fitted at the same time as my new gearbox-under warranty of course:eek:

took mine back cuz its noisey all the time 02 blue
pidcocks said they wouldn't change it unless it failed; it hasn't yet

WHAATTTTT???????

What's the story there Steve? (Its ok to hijack my own thread)

new box of cogs.........

Well Dave the story goes like this..............................
Annual service last October I asked Rydale's to take my bike for a ride as I thought 4th gear was noisy,i.e. noisier than any other gear.
The noise was most noticeable in 4th at speeds of 40-ish mph when "rolling on" the throttle,if I gave it some in 3rd and continued accelerating through 4th (i.e. changing into 4th at much higher speeds) there was no noticable noise,so I could in theory "ride around" the problem-pun intended ;)
Rydale said last October there was no noticeable noise worth worrying about,I wasn't particularly happy but felt that my complaint had been noted and should the gearbox lunch itself in the future I could say "told you so":P
The noise has got more noticeable lately,so whilst they fitted a new front tyre, had a listen to my fuel pump(from the M4) and carried out a "safety check" I asked them again to take the bike for a ride and listen out for the 4th gear noises:confused:
It's 2 years old in October,imagine the cost of a new gearbox & labour & sundries,recovery and v.a.t.
Good news is I'm not the only one who can hear the noise-phew!
The technician (Roger?) pronounced it a howler, they've assured me it'll get to Spain and back without lunching itself, and have ordered a replacement to be fitted when I get back, along with a new fuel pump.
Rydale asked BWM if they wanted to ride the bike before a warranty claim was authorised, but BWM were too busy to send someone down to the depths of Wales for a whole month, not acceptable to Rydale or me,so they authorised it anyway.
Rydale have been great about it really,I've no complaints, but I'm wondering about extending the warranty for another year in Ocotber when the 2 years expires
Do you think they'll give me discount as I won't need cover for the gearbox and fuel pump:rolleyes:
