Going north or south? South - ferry to Andenes from Gryllefjord (sp?) then down the length of the Lofotens over to Bodo and seek out road 17 which is a mix of good roads and six ferries. There is a timetable book with details free. Get one at the first ferry. North, there's not so much choice. I enjoyed the rock carvings in Alta but that might not be your thing. If you are heading for the cape the hostel at Honningsvag is good.

Sorry, just read your post again - do you mean Stave beach, the one with the hot pools? If you do your already on the Lofotens.

Yes mate - Stave Beach Hut - the pone with the hot pools, form their south, to do the atlantic road and the "troll road"...

Cracking route.

Did this going north, turn off just north of Trondheim.
At Namsos. Then off you go all the way on the 17 to Bodo out to the Lofotons and up and across Norway's largest island Senja.
Round to Tromso.
So in reverse just as good. Superb scenery!

TOTALLY avoids the dreaded E6!

Then ferry to Bodo, 17 and ferry to avoid Tromso, Kristiansund and the Atlantic road to Molde, Trollstigen, to Geiranger, is the way I went from where you are now. Look for the road from Lom to Sogndal, it's another cracker recommended by Liv on here. Enjoy! :beerjug:

Tyclyd - Walrus, seems I am a bit behind on your route great info on your trip :drool - safe travels
2 more days - positive, exciting stress :bounce1- look fwd to starting off.

Johnson, I think you are in the most stressful phase. It all falls away once you are on the road. Good luck. I'm in Stavanger now in the most expensive hotel room per sq foot I have ever paid for!

Glad you are enjoying Norway. It's a fab country and totally overshadows its next door neighbour!

Norway is expensive, 2 yrs ago I paying nearer £20 a night for camping!
A hut was about £40

Lived on bread and cheese and pasta from the supermarkets - prices were okay. Had my 1st 'meal' after two weeks on the road when I got into Sweden as I could afford the burger and chips at about £7.

We're up at Lofoton now .... prices about right :thumb

Chuckling to ourselves, just had pasta and cheese from the supermarket :D

Thanks for sharing in this thread.
I am on the way back (was at Norkapp on Monday), now in Trones - just did part of the 17 down from Bodø.
Will do Oslo-Kiel and then Hoek-Harwich to get home.

Have been enjoying every single mile so far (maybe less the ones in torrential downpour)

I got DFDS to arrange a refund for my outward (4th) I'm keeping the return though.

Email [email protected] quote your booking ref as the phone rings for quite a while.

Now going up via the Hook/Kiel (via the Uboat)/Hirtshals to keep the original plan together.

As for downpours new trend now is wear a bin liner - covering any BMW badges.:D

Anyone from this site in Stavanger on Thurs June 6th ?
I saw four Brits park up alongside the P&O liner Aurora ? I was on the ship with my Wife on our way to Flam,Alesund The Faroes and Iceland.
Can concur that Norway is bloody expensive ! Coffee and a muffin £18 , beer £9 and in Flam there is an award winning brewery /Pub where their gold medal winning beer is an incredible £34 !!!
It 'twas lovely sitting on the ship in Stavanger paying £2.75 - 8.5% (discount)for Bass !!
Would still love to do Norway by bike though.

Would anyone care to cast an eye on the RoundBalticRoute? The Nordcap doesn't interest me but preserving/reducing costs does, so I am thinking of (Camping's definitely out) hostels and/or cabins. I appreciate the extremely high costs of food and beer in Norway.

Paul, I can only comment on the bits I know. I must be honest my first thought was why. I rode up to Nordkapp last May/June (http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?344116-Reflections-on-Scratching-the-itch-Nordkapp-2013) and although I was interested by the four days of riding through Sweden and Finland I wouldn't want to do as much as you are proposing. I can understand why folk cut out the long trip North to the cape and I can't comment on the bit to Tallin which looks like it could be an interesting trip. If I were you I would consider heading for Bodo after Tornio and coming down R17 and then the Atlantic Rd from Kristiansund. You might have reasons for your Norway route but I think it misses some of the best bits of Norway. There some links to the route I took towards the end of my report if you are interested. I would also consider whether the cost of the ferry back from Esjberg is worth it considering how much you are saving on not flogging back through Denmark, Germany and France. You can do Hirtshals to Esjberg in a day and catch the boat easily.

I think this is down to my lack of experience with plotting routes on Google Maps. Maybe this link is better with the route hugging the west coastline which I guess you call the Atlantic Road.

I live in Kent so Dover/Calais is better for me rather than a North Sea crossing and travelling clockwise through the Benelux countries to Denmark. Ferry to Kristiansand then Stavanger, Bergen, Kristiansund and Trondheim. Then looping around the top of the Baltic.bnige

(Later) No that map not's right. How do I alter a route and save it so I can find it again?

(Much later) This might be it although it has simplified the route onto straight lines.

(Even later) Nope, I still cannot get a link to my altered route.
