So...
A restructuring at work left me - "in between jobs" - at least I trust it is in between
Not the end of my life but still made me have a look at the "bucket list" - result: I am heading of to the Norkapp -

Not a lot of plans yet but needed get started somewhere so ..... I booked a ferry to make it real : June 20th Harwich-Esbjerg -
as seems always the case on this ferry, I end up with a double cabin with only me.

Don't even know if possible to share but if someone is interested .....

Know it is short term but pm if interested

I don't have a return ticket...
I have never done such a trip and don't know how the riding will go.
Don't have to many time constraints so planning to see where and how i get back - if nothing, I'll drive to get a Calais-Dover crossing.

This might be too much of an open planning for most

Why not book a flexible return say Hook-Harwich then when you know you are en-route to the ferry you can phone ahead to get booked onto a boat, or at least find out how long you'll have to wait.

That's exactly what I have done. It doesn't cost much more to keep the booking open. Reached Nordkapp today a week almost to the minute after I landed at Hook of Holland. And I had a day off on the way to visit the Sami museum in Inari.

I used hotels on the way up booked via booking.com app on my phone. Camping would have been cheaper. I booked Inari before I left home and the hostel at Honningsvag because I knew I would stay there. Now I'm finding campsites as I go. I've not used Hytte yet. I'm writing this from my tent at 3 am in broad daylight! Be warned Norway really is expensive. Even though I was expecting it I'm shocked. Mind you I am pretty tight fisted. ;-)

I did a Norway trip in 2010.. Absolutely loved it

It is expensive but worth it.

It was about now, early June so the majority of site were empty - never had a problem getting a place to sleep and never booked ahead.

Make sure you try the huts, fantastic idea and great especially if you've had rain that day....which you may well do!

Campsites I've used have been 100 - 150kr a night for a tent and the bike. Sometimes showers are free, sometimes it's a 20kr coin in the slot. No trouble finding a site and not busy at the moment. Do it!

I am already all booked and getting ready to roll

Setting off mid-July, going to be heading up the E45 through Sweden and should reach the cape after about a week, then coming back through the northern half of Norway then back into Sweden again most likely.

Huts are the way to go - I am in Sweden now but moving north after a few days r&r - Cosy me 30 Krona a night with electricity and heating and wifi, paid between 12 and 18 Krona plus costs for showers but when your all wet these are a godsend - check out tyclyd.com, let me know when you will be arriving, i have got till 9th July

Glad you are enjoying Norway. It's a fab country and totally overshadows its next door neighbour!

Norway is expensive, 2 yrs ago I paying nearer £20 a night for camping!
A hut was about £40 so a good deal if travelling with some other folk and share the cost. Must be great if the weather is crappy.

However, I never booked ahead as there were always tons of sites and every one that I stayed at had a communal building where you could do your cooking, on a stove and have a seat at a table. So this got you indoors and out of any cold, wet weather and saved on gas!

Lived on bread and cheese and pasta from the supermarkets - prices were okay. Had my 1st 'meal' after two weeks on the road when I got into Sweden as I could afford the burger and chips at about £7.

Very tempted to go back this year end of July.....will see.

ps E45 up through Sweden is a goer. Quiet, straight roads. Not much scenery unless trees is your thing Grizzly!!

Yes got a little local knowledge from one of our party, he's a Brit ex-pat in Sweden. Apparently you do get quite a few campervans heading north out of Germany in the summer and I think that's one reason why we're not using the coastal main road

I am in Aurland at the moment and I paid 400 Nor Kr for a hut. Good view but Basically £50. They seem to get dearer as I go South. I have also had rooms in Hostels for a similar price in Norway and Sweden incl. breakfast. I am heartily sick of seeing big German campervans in places they shouldn't be. The smell of burning brakes in the morning!
