Norway Norway Norway!

Just returned from my trip and thanks to the info on here did some fantastic roads. The Aursjovegen was my highlight, and would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about it.

Help with Lofoten

Hi, I'm new to this site, I've just got my GS after not having a bike for 6+ years.
I used to live in Svolvaer in Lofoten, in the mid 90's and I have been up there on my bike and in car a few of times since. I still have a lot of friends up there and I am planing another trip up there sooner of later too see them.
It's a great place to visit and defiantly worth the trip.
Although it is a while since I lived there if I can be any help please drop me a line.

Hi!

I'm late - sorry.

But I could'nt help as I have never been at Lofoten.

-But perhaps we meet! :bounce1:bounce1

:tarka Liv.

I'm in Oslo at the moment and glad it's a business trip - £27 for a pizza and 400ml glass of Coke Zero

Everything seems to cost basically double the price at home :(
That's why Norway has virtually no tourism, I suppose that itself makes it an attractive destination. You can do Norway on the cheap, stay in hostels and don't dine or drink out.

It's worth saving for we spent 3 1/2 weeks going up through sweden to Nordkapp then down west coast, absolutely superb think it cost about 2 1/2 K all in and we did not camp not that cheap but what a holiday (6500 miles rnd trip)

Camp, take your own food and top up with occasional supermarket purchases. It really is not too expensive. Coffee and cake or coffee and snacks at Statoil stations are good deals too.

Bike Hire near Oslo

Anybody have any recommendations for a bike hire company in Oslo or Bergan for a trip up to the North Cape.

Norway is expensive, no question about it. But there are a lot of misleading info around. Sven; I am pretty sure this was a large pizza for 2-3 persons?

An Italian style pizza for one is usually between NOK 120 - 180 in a nice place in Oslo, let's say 150 on average. Add 35 for the drink, and remember that you are not expected to tip. At today's rates that is around GBP 16. I don't think I pay that much less in London, with your 10 -15% tips added?

Your country is beautiful !!!
Been Scotland to your Nordkapp 2 times.
I find that even the best pictures do not give the full experience of the scenery in Norway
:thumb2

Excellent vid, thanks for sharing.

Brought back memories of my trip to Norway earlier this year. :thumby:

Hopefully you will be inspired to visit or revisit Norway :-)

Fabulous videos! Thanks for posting.

I've been a couple of times to your beautiful country to go diving out of Narvik and Bergen. Next time will definitely be on the motorbike :thumb2

norway at the end of feb...

i've just had a quick scan through the massive selection of posts and info, but couldn't see anything about the, erm, colder months. i fancy doing the primus rally, near oslo, at the end of next february and am unsure about a lot of things. mainly what kind of tyres to use? is it a legal requirement to have winter tyres?/studded tyres? can i have studs fitted at a garage when the weather turns bad? can i use studded tyres if there is no snow/ice on the roads? what about snow chains? any help appreciated. karl
