Norway Norway Norway!

I`m not Liv, but who cares. I live a lot closer to Lofoten, 125 km and a ferry away from home...

As general, You cant go wrong in Lofoten. Short distances between most of the places.

Whats of special interest?
Hotel? Camping?

Too bad You not are there NOW! Smoking hot and sun from BLUE sky...

Some sunshine would be welcome its a very wet weekend in Ireland.I'm Interested in riding trails, photography and possibly some shore fishing. Hotels will be too rich for me so camping or hostels. All advice appreciated.

I have just finished the five day tour. I took a tent but ended up using the "hytter" or small huts. They are not much more expensive,I paid between 30 and 45a night. They are way more comfortable as they have bunk beds a cooker and pots and crockery. I am now in Sweden but I have to say that Norway was the best biking I ever did. Just don't eat out!

I am here now on my wander from Scotland to ( hopefully the Nordkapp)
Camped every night of the trip so far except a motel in Hirtsals/Denmark ,plenty of campsites and ALL Seem very friendly
This has been my first whole dry day since leaving Scotland a week ago
Now just a bit north of Lillihammer
As one of the previous posters said ,don't plan on eating out (unless you have a lot of££££ to spend ) the prices are at times eye watering !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have brought a bit of food and buy raw material for a bit cook up in the evening
Having said that about the £££ I have just about had the best day riding I can remember on cross country roads
The scenery is , at times Majestic, breathtaking and lots of other big complicated words , Outstanding country!!! well worth the long road haul to get here :thumb2
This will hopefully be the first of more visit,s

Two weeks before my Scandinavian trip around the Baltic.:thumb2 Already booked rooms at hostels in Meppen (Germany) and Hirtshals (Denmark) and the ferry to Kristiansand. I will probably stay there a couple of days before heading north up the West Norway coast.

I can recommend riding through the national park Thy which is on the very north west side of Denmark. You will end up at Hirtshals, if you want a nice place to stop then Lonstrup is only about twenty minutes from the ferry and has a hotel and a campfire on top of the hill just out of town.

Thanks for the tip but I have pre-booked a room at the hostel at Blokhus, about 30mins from the ferry at Hirtshals.

I'm planning to take the ferry from Forsand to Lysebotn mid August. Can I just turn up or is it best to book in advance?

I strongly recomend you book the ferry from Lysebotn, we stood waiting for the ferry as a few others did, ferry came in, picked up about one car and one bike (prebooked) and buggerd off (one poor girl started to cry!). We rode back to Stavanger (great road it was mind).

Its all you say and more, nowhere else like it. Hope to take the wife if they ever put the Newcastle ferry back on and go up to Lofen Isls, staying in hostels :thumb2

Thanks for the info. I need to be in Kristiansand the same night for the ferry to Hirtshals next morning so will book a place.

I have camped or had "Hytte" om my visits in Lofoten - camping fee for 1 MC and tent are usually 15 GBP - with acess to service house for cooking etc etc There are a lot of campings in Lofoten.

For "Hytte" the prices are different, but somewhere around - one room 2 people ~ 95 GBP two rooms 4 people ~ 140 GBP

Hostel

In the tourist season, You can have trouble with "no vacancy" - bring a sleeping bag so You dont need to hire bed liners!

For Your camera - there will be pictures waiting to be taken everywhere, make sure You make a safe stop on the road, believe me, You WILL come round a corner and suddelly find a German lady with a camera in the middle of the road on the side of a camping van! Dont make that mistake yourselves...

Shore fishing can be done everywhere - NO problem. In Norway You can fish in the sea whereever You want as long as You not enter somebodys "build up" property.

Fresh water fishing is more difficult, Your equipment must be treated against Gyrodactylus Salaris when You enter Norway and its a pain in the a*** to keep track of the rules...

I'm in Oslo at the moment and glad it's a business trip - £27 for a pizza and 400ml glass of Coke Zero

Everything seems to cost basically double the price at home :(

Great info thanks for that. Think I'll bring my "heavier" tent with the flysheet and save the money for hostels at Lofoten. Stamsund looks fantastic.

Yes the cost of things in Norway is eye watering but not unexpected. At least things will become progressively less expensive as I travel through Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. I'll just have to take some tinned food with me and a couple of bottles of wine.

Things to see: http://www.lofoten-info.no/sakrisoy/

At Vestvågøy just before http://www.lofotr.no/index.asp - take FV 829 to Unstad! If You cant take great pictures there... And maybe bring Your surfboard...

Just after http://www.lofotr.no/index.asp - take FV831 to Eggum - small strange place...

Short after that FV 835 brings You out to nowwhere bye the sea and back!

On Gimsøya FV 861 do the same...

Henningsvær on FV816 are a must see

Hi GPLonford just passed your nest today not realising you stayed there. We didn't see no eagles even though there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Maybe too hot for them too at 27 degrees. Plus that is.
Lofotons tomorrow. Ferry to Moskenes. Then ride the road NE. Weather to be unbearably hot, again. Eat your heart Boatman!

Hi!

I'm late - sorry.

But I could'nt help as I have never been at Lofoten.

-But perhaps we meet! :bounce1:bounce1

:tarka Liv.

Here's a wee taster from the trip Arty and I have just finished. Will do a report in due course.
