Not again!

Hi All

I'm doing a brain picking to all you technical type people out there. I only fix aeroplanes for a living so my knowledge doesn't go as far as bikes and my gs doesn't seem to agree with me when i work on it.

Problem is that the throttle is slightly unresponsive when i roll off it, it's not as smooth when you put the power down aswell. Also it sounds like the right hand cylinder is miss firing or 'ticking' abit. I know the gs rocks side to side a bit when you blip the throttle, but when it's on it's centre stand you visibly see it moving more than normal. It just seemed to start doing this out of the blue. It doesn't sound right, a bit 'rattly'. ( i know not good english)

This same thing happened about 2 years ago and BMW changed the throttle cable to the rh cylinder. But to no avail. They ended changing an 'electronic fuel control box' or something like that. Having scoured the good old Hanes manual for advice and the location of said 'electronic fuel control box'. I'm bit stumped.

Any advice would be appreciated as i think this may be expensive.

I'd check your throttle balance was spot on before you start to worry about more expensive possibilities. Check one of the cable adjusters hasn't loosened off too. Also get the computer to do a reset (turn ignition on, slowly open the throttle from fully closed to fully open a couple of times, then switch off the ignition. Do not start the engine). Ticking from the valve gear is quite common, especially when the engine is hot.

Is one of the throttle cables kinked/corroded so it's partially sticking? If it wasn't letting one of the throttles close properly it would mess things up. Bit odd for the dealer to change a cable unless there was a mechanical problem with the old one.


The' electronic fuel control box' is probably the big computer thingie that lives under the tank and controls pretty much every electronic goings-on for the bike but that is unlikely to be the problem. It wasn't a throttle stepper motor they changed by any chance?

Thanks for the advice, i'll put it to use this week and see what happens. If not it's down to Bmw i go.
