Hi all, sorry to bring this up but i am totally confused.

I have a Streetpilot3 which i now use on my GS after a few years of using it in the car. it has been great & i know how to use it but it has started to drop satelittes & in general probably needs updating. when i transfered the SP3 to the bike i bought a Nuvi fur the car, again it is very good but certainly not as robust as the SP3 and of course it isnt waterproof. I know that the Zumo has hit the shops but i really dont want to spend £500. So:

Ca anyone recommend a reasonably priced unit that,

A) Has sufficient storage for European trips, or alternatively has the facility to switch memory cards with different maps like the SP3

B) Is reasonably portable & rugged

C) Has a fast re-routing time

I am not looking for the latest gadget, just a reliable user friendly unit that is a step up from the SP3

My shortlist -

Garmin 2610, a bargain at present but is the 256mb large enough? & i am a bit worried that it is now a bit out of date & backup may be a problem, is it much smaller than an SP3?

Garmin Quest or Quest 2, there seems to be questionmarks over the reliability & again 256mb?

Tomtom Rider, this now seems to have been discontinued although there are a few around with full European mapping at £400 which i feel is too much in view of the reliability issues raised here in the past.

Any help appreciated guys:thumb2

Just buy a 2 gig card (@£20) and slap all of Europe AND worldmap on it and your troubles are over............

2610 -the 256 memory is only because thats the card that it comes with.
As Jon says - buy a 2gig card, takes the whole of europe.

it's not the size of the 2610 thats better than a streetpilot 3, it's the speed. The newer models are no faster than a 2610.

Alternatively, there a BMW Navigator 2 (Slightly improved version of 2610) on eBay at the moment with 4 days to go. Its the full kit with the mount etc. I have one of these on my 1200 and its brilliant. Be sure if you bid on it / win it to get the current owners details so you can re-register the unit with Garmin. It comes with full european mapping, and if you ask nicely at Garmin when registering they might even send you an updated version of mapsource.

gpswarehouse have only refurb 2610s left...the navigation comapny might be worth a try

thanks for the advice guys, i have ordered a 2610 motorcycle parcel from gpsw

My 2610 arrived today, great service from GPSW, they kept me informed of progress with my order via email and sent a note yesterday afternoon confirming the unit had been despatched. All I have to do now is learn how to use it. :) :)
