NW200 - badly run?

I take your point Blobbs, and that might well have been the case, but the ride in wasn't as bad this year as previously which made me think that the crowds were smaller this year. Undoubtedly the weather was the reason.
£18 is not that much to pay when the racing we did get to see was so good.

on our run down on Saturday morning we were in the company of bikes from Galway...Cork...Donegal.....Waterford...Wexford...and Dublin......
Just wondered though..........do the Cork men stay up here the night before or what?????
They wern't carrying any travelling gear...panniers or bags etc.....
Aye...agree the racing we saw was second to none.........
do think the crowds were down on previous years..........
They do Noodles. Friends of ours from Dunmanway and Millstreet usually head up on Friday and stay in Derry then head home on the Sunday.

Just back from the NW200 and agree with most of the points raised.
£18 is very steep but I paid it
Gutted with seeing so little racing and so many red flags
Loads of time wasted with sports cars etc going round the course
Alistair Seeley is a very lucky man - saw his off on the TV last night
Could they not have declared a WET race and ran one more

Put yourself in Mervyn White's shoes.
Last year, rider killed.
This Saturday, after the 250cc, you know another rider will almost certainly die before the race programme is finished.
The roads MUST open at 6.30, you therefore cannot take a chance on yet another Red flag incident where the victim may need a long stablising period before even been put in an ambulance.
To say it was dangerous conditions at the NW on Saturday is a grand understatement,as was proved by all the crashes.
The Clerk of the Course was on a hiding to nothing, well beaten by the weather.
I paid £30 for a grandstand seat + programme really just to get the weight off my feet, I didn't feel robbed, shit happens.
One last Tit-bit, the Programme was to be £16 BUT the Printer made a mistake and put £18 on it, only discovered when too late to change.

Just watched the footage and as I said originally the racing that we saw was great. And Harry - there are crashes year in year out regardless of the weather and the crashes I saw on the highlights programme last night didn't look to be caused by the weather - Seeley's slide, the university corner crash on the 250s, the Dunlop/Elkin coming together on juniper hill chicane... Road racing here is inherently dangerous whether it's raining or sunny.
I love road racing and I love going to NW200 and other smaller races - my original point was that there was too much delaying, stopping and starting and it will have put off a lot of people from coming again.
And yes, I still think the programme was too expensive

I agree that it was disappointing, especially having hacked over from Manchester via Stranraer, but the weather doesn't answer to mankind.
I wouldn't fancy riding a BSB spec superbike in those conditions, and neither would many a sane man. What racing was seen, red flags permitting, was as goos as ever.
I didn't buy a programme this year either, but spend the money on Guinness on Saturday night instead.
At least this time i made it to Joey's bar, and the memorial garden, which was enough to justify the whole trip. Well, that and the annual filling of the ferry with bikes, which is always an amazing site. It must be for the people of Stranraer, despite terrible conditions they were out in force again this year to wave us off the ferry Sunday afternoon.
So, crap weather, expensive programmes, not enough racing. I'll be back next year, of course
