Just before my ride home I noticed my exhaust just on the one side was very dark also the rear wheel had traces of residue.

Now home and the rear wheel looks fine and it's the front wheel that seems to have a sticky residue even on things like the edge of the brake discs ( I'd not really checked the front wheel before I left for home)

It looks like someone has creosoted by exhaust...

It's a mystery, any ideas as its fecking with my mind and I'm riding like a wuss

Cheers

Have you ridden through roadworks? That could be the stuff they put down before they lay Tarmac.

Or did you ride over a coke can?:P

The answer is blindingly obvious once you have had the problem oneself !

You have run over a plastic carrier bag and the "residue" is whats left of it and takes some cleaning off !!!!

I don't think so and why just one side.... I did ride a slightly different way in today, I'll retrace tomorrow.

The inside of the exhaust is OK and my boots don't show any sign of sticky uck on them

Intresting but how would that account for the front wheel and disc edge being sticky.

Don't know is the best answer i have for that one but the exhaust down pipes and link pipe look exactly like mine did when i hit a plastic bag and it melted everywhere

It was a bastard to clean !

Fork oil?

:nenau
I thought that but I'm not even sure how much oil if any the Gs forks hold. Oil cooler leak above front wheel maybe or front shock leaking,
Looks weird on the front wheel. Grease from front wheel bearing or brake fluid leak even

I had something similar with a camper van and it was some sort of slurry, it was certainly organic and originated from the rear end of farm animals.

It was the most disgusting stuff to remove, smelled unmistakably "farmy" and had hardened almost permanently onto my paint work.

From the throw onto your exhaust it certainly looks like you have ridden through something. If it's not a carrier bag it may be a road surfacing material or more of what I had.

Certainly clean it off without delay and watch out on your route for any repeat.

I'm going with the carrier bag theory because that would account for the lack of shite on my boot....

Front shock, oil level and brake fluid levels all OK.

Bike now cleaned (a bit early as it was not due till October) so tomorrow I can see if more happens.

That's the bikes clean, not the exhaust, that's a pigging mess

If it was a bag thank fuck it wasn't a sainsburys one or your bike would be turning orange and giles would be having trouser issues
