I need to remove the centre tube of the oil filter from my G/S

Is there a special tool i need or can get to fit the slot in the end of the tube ?

Not sure if its going to be really tight .

Or can it be unscrewed with a lerge screwdrive with a hex on the end of the handle.

Just wondered how tight they are ?

Do they need heating with eather a engine warm up or from the inside with a heat gun with the oil pan off.

Any experiances and advice welcome

Thanks

The oil filter should just slide out easily.

There's a bit at the far end of the oil filter housing that has a bit of a tube that goes into the filter??

Maybe worth looking at an exploded drawing to make sure you're not trying to remove something you shouldn't be.

Otherwise, I'm a bit confused.

You can tell me to mind my own business but why do you want to remove it ?

Going from oil cooler , which has the long centre tube to non - oil cooler which has the shorter central tube (38mm)

To further explain - i was lucky enough to get a R80G/S PD which had front end and pistons/ barrels changed to R100.

The last owner kept all the original items and i have just managed to get a nice pair of R80 pistons and barrels , so its going back to original as i like the standard R80 setup.

I think the R100 is not a smooth as the R80 , i have got R100R to which i fitted a new Siebenrock1000cc kit and its probibly about as smooth as a standard R80.

Being a G/S it has the 37/11 low ratio final drive so its "nippy" enough for me.

We need to see some photo’s of this 😀

Last time I did this I just unscrewed the tube during an oil change with warm engine.

Did the same on an R100RS many years ago. The tube was not that tight, didn't present any issues. A large screwdriver should do it.

I knackered the long tube when I tried to remove probably because I didn’t have a large enough screwdriver but it was tight. Eventually made up a tube spanner which has been useful since on other bikes.

Just undid everything and it came off easy.
I had made a tool up , like a blunt screwdriver with a hex on the end.

Was over thinking it.

It was easier then trying to upload a picture of the bike :)

Thanks
