Probably going to get beat up for this question, but.........i have taken the oil filter out of my GS 80 but have noticed that no rubber seal that is supplied with the new filter came out with it. Also on the filter that came out it has "ox37" and the part number ends in 570, but the new filter ends 575 and has ox 36 on it. I know its a crap question but would appreciate any help re the numbers and the rubber seal with the new filter. I will buy a manual for future, but stuck at the moment. I have to go back to BMW tmrw for some plug washers anyway. Any thoughts please?

Get the kettle on and have a read http://www.largiader.com/tech/filters/

OX37 is the shorter filter for engines without an oil cooler

OX36 is a longer filter for engines with an oil cooler.

You have the wrong filter for your bike and need the correct one :beerjug:

Oh FFS.........back to the dealership tmrw then. Whats the betting they dont have any in stock. I shall read the info on filters and learn, thanks Rob. Looks heavy going for a bloody filter replacement though!
Still i have now drained all my drive/gearbox and engine oil, so i am well on the way now. Cheers Rob

And the main dealer has to order in those oh so rare and rarely used items:nenau............oil filter and sump washer!!!
I mean thats like a fruit and veg shop that does'nt sell spuds and apples. Bit poor that is'nt it.

Sherlock has them in stock and will despatch the day you order..

Thank you Proff...i managed to get one ordered am with Motorworks, they reckon tmrw morning. I am just a bit gutted cos i wanted to go to the Thunder Sprint on Sunday, fingered crossed.

Don't feel too bad Captain, I had the same experience with my first filter change- trusted the shop that said "yep it'll do all bikes that year" Ended up with motobins one.

Good thing is after this first change you'll have all the info you need to carry on doing the oil changes & maintenance for a long long time:thumb2

Yeap thanks i will know in future! I have just spent over an hour looking for the riders/owners manual for my GS 80 to see how much oil is needed on a change. You guessed it.....bloody manual is in German! anyway i think it's 2.25 litres with filter and 2 litres without. Not much is it!

I always buy high use items like filters etc a couple at a time so you always have one on hand just in case.
