Can anyone tell me whether the one piece and two piece oil filters are interchangeable? I have always used the one piece filtersup to now but I bought a motoren Israel oil cooler kit to fit to my airhead special and it came with the two piece filters (plus the canister spigot tube and cover needed for the oil cooler. I was just wondering whether I can carry on using the one piece filters or not?

With. Standard on R100GS. Was the folding one supposed to make it easier to change with crashbars in place? But I always remove the bar when changing the filter.
They’re referred to as bendy oil filters😂

The ‘bendy’ oil filter would make sense if the oil cooler is mounted to the crash bar in front of the RH cylinder. I haven’t fitted the cooler yet and I’ve been thinking about fitting it vertically to the RH down tube. There is room for it and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work just as well vertical as horizontal…..

Mine is tucked away higher up.

I did a lot of poking at these many years ago Basically you have 3 versions

1 straight and 2 bendy and the Lengths vary its "basically" Oil cooler Non Oil cooler

OX35 Linky

OX36 Linky

OX37 Linky

Apparently the linkys needed the tracker bit :( I usually remove them

Thanks, that’s a neat installation. I’ve gone for a bigger 10 row cooler from motoren Israel which is too big to fit behind the mudguard. I’m either going to find a way of fitting it vertically to the RH frame tube or fit a set of crash bars and mount it horizontally on the RH side

The bendy filters are direct replacement for the straight ones. The differentiator is the oil cooler. You can use either a straight or a bendy. I can get a straight one in my PD with only taking off the belly pan (not the crash bar or oil cooler pipes).

Thanks for that Gelandestrasse, I’d prefer using the straight ones as I’ve got good access on this bike so the two piece one is unnecessary. Do you know which part number it is for the straight one?

Had to look it up - without oil cooler 11 42 1 337 570 Bendy [Mahle OX37D], (straight type 11 42 1 337 572, [OX35]) 128mm long. Also Hiflo [HF161]

Kit is 11009056145 (without oil cooler)

With oil cooler 11 42 1 337 575 OX36, OX36D 138.5mm long (Hiflo don't appear to make one for the oil cooler models).
Note Motorworks list SIA37570-1 for models without oil coolers, but with part no ...575, this is wrong somewhere, but there aren't enough hours in the day to sort that).

I can't find a part number for the straight ones, but they are available as I have just last week fitted one! The Motoren Israel kit filters should be 138.5mm long. And if you have any straight ones that length they will be ok.
