Anyone know the difference between HIFL 160 and HIFL 163 oil filters and can the 163 be ok to use on my 014 GSA 1200 LC? Quipe that it is 3 will be wasted. Thanks in advance.

163 is not for K50 LC

The 160 is for the K50

Only difference i can see is the depth of the filter 160 is 76mmX62mm the 163 is 76mm x 79mm

So the filter will protrude 17mm more - might be tight of clash if you have a bash plate fitted.

Ive just measured a genuine filter for a K25 hex and its only 54mm deep - same as HFL

But would you really fit the wrong filter when the right one is available

there not that expensive

why would you fit that schite to your bike!!

The only ones I have ever had to fix for folks on 850 1100 and 1150 R RT RS GS and S were those schite!!! Totally Schite construction!!! and I'd love to compare data on filtration rate!!

Why would you save a few quid over an OE fitment of a Mahle filter??

Hence why mine is being changed - (and i didnt fit it!)

Thanks for the reply . I was given the 163 filter and noted 160 recommended for 014 GSA lC so wondered what the difference was . So new 160 it is then . Love this site as great source of info . Ta

North Down motor factors should be able to get you Mahle filters (Picture with the two part numbers and dimensions below )
below

If you do use the Hi Flo screw it on by hand only until you need to apply any pressure to turn it and then tighten it 3/4 of a turn more (The outer skins rotate when you try to take them off If they are over tightened!)

Of interest

What was the price for the Hiflo & the price for an OE part?

Mahle OC306 are identical to BMW product for Hexheads (made to fit some BMW series cars) and about £8.40 each delivered.

My Motorrad agent recently stung me for £17 for an OE oil filter (was in a rush for one). Time to shop elsewhere !

Not a chance Hurst "BMW" charged you for one they do not stock them

Hurst Bike may have but Definitely not Motorrad

Jay i am not in habit of telling lies. Hurst did charge me £16 quid for a oli filter last yr as i changed oil two days before my Euro trip. I will not be buying another off them.

Apologies I wasn't doubting the £16 for a filter but I am sure it was not a hi flo from "Motorrad" they are not allowed, to sell anything but BM OE ??

Also when you buy the Genuine filter. doesn't it come with the Crush washers for service? The earlier OE filter that all the bikes used had them all in ithe box, including a rubber O ring for the K series (bricks) it saved us waiting whilst Billy found all the necessary crush washers back in the day

Why would a franchised BMW agent undercut BMW with a rival product ??
