Can anyone advise on this one?
The facts: GS1100, first one I have owned. .... Going along ,quite quickly, and looked down to notice oil coming from the Oil filler cap. Not a lot but enough to collect a noticable amount into the fins around it.
The filler cap is a touratech anti tamper thing.
Now, is it just the rubber O ring seal on the thing has gone or ... something else? This only seemed to happen above 5000rpm in top as far as i could work out. Any answers, solutions or even sarcastic comments relating to my naivety on such a simple matter.

Thanks

there's two O rings on standard filler cap.

one under actual cap & another under the fitting it screws into. change them.

Seals..One question leads to another.

Good grief cookie, thanks for quick response. So...Will the standard seal fit the touratech part or will i have to go to them for that one?

thanks

Agree with Cookie about changing the o ring, had the same problem my 1100, but I was only aware of one ring.
Cookie, are there two rings on the standard filler cap or just the Touratech one?
thanx

Tourcraptech I'm afraid!

Had the same prob.
If you take out the seal in the rocker cover you'll find that the leading edge of the TT cap has damaged the seal as it turns. File a small rounding onto the lead edge of the TT cap and buy a new seal from dealer. When fitting your TT cap every time you've topped up make sure you apply a downward pressure as you turn it and it won't tear the seal in the cover then.
Hope this helps - it cured mine

one ring under cap and another under the plastic fitting that's meant to remain in the head when removing the cap, but sometimes doesn't.

i have had the standard cap (parts # 5,6,7,8) & now have a genuine bmw locking one (10,11,12). no experience of the TT item, but i dexpect it's very similar to bmws offering.

Apart from the cost

my bmw cap was about 25 quid from motorworks. it needed filing to remove a sharp edge that caught on the filler pipe item 5, and unscrewed it along with the cap. the rubber flap also broke & fell off shortly after purchase.

bunch of arse :spitfire
