So is the oil light a oil pressure light or a oil level light ?or a bit of both ?

An oil pressure light, the level is checked via the sight glass, between halfway and top of the ring is good
If you have a flickering or steady oil light ??
If it is? It is very likely to be a dodgy oil light switch
They all do that Sir
switch failure or oil leak by the left hand barrel is common especially they are getting older now
