need some advice please changed the oil and filter on the bike last week and all was well. started the bike tonight and the oil light is coming on dimly sometimes going out .i think i've put to much oil in its at the very top of glass with a small air bubble outside of the red ring .could this be the cause or could it be the pressure switch ?thanks for any advice or cheek:D

I had similar symptoms, it was the pressure switch a common enough fault apparently.

Did you go through any puddles or wet stuff just before it happened???

My oil light has been on several times after fords etc.......stays on for up to 200ish miles then the switch dries out.

its never moved for a week .just fitted philips 50% brighter bulbs and k+n filter tonight it can't be anything to do with that .i'll check the connection on pressure switch and take a bit of oil out see if that works .
thanks

Just change the switch, there not much there to dry out and its not level sensitive mine failed after standing for a couple of days, they only cost a couple of quid and take no time to change, and it will give you piece of mind and if the worst comes to the worst you will know its the oil pump or not.

WAIT! before you rush out and buy new switch... check on this (I have posted it a couple of times)...

the switch works by earthing out... what often happens is:

1) the spade clip at the switch (next to oil sight glass) gets loose or corroded - repalce if necessary with a rubber covered variety.
OR
2) often the wiring from the switch that is clipped to a cooling fin
melts through the insulation and earths out ... especially when wet after washing, rain etc...this switches on the light (this sounds like your case scenario - with only a slight earthing). The fix is easy and simple - pull wiring from the few clips running along engine block to frame, use good insulation tape along the wire and replace. fixed.:)

all fixed now just needed a clean thanks for your help :thumb
