Anyone know of a part number (and supplier other than BMVV) of the oil line that goes from the radaitor to the engine down the nearside of the bike? 2003 R1150GS with black engine casing if it makes a difference. It looks to be about 50cm of slightly shaped pipework.
Mine's rusted and the MoT bloke said it may let go, but I'm sure that the person quoting several hundred pounds to me just for the part must have got the wrong end of the stick. Sadly looking at my usual source of parts info I can't see it on their diagram.

Thanks in advance.

Is this any help. No 8?

Are you sure it needs replacing? Could be it just needs stripping and re-painting unless the rust has really eaten into it.

Mine looked pitted and a little dodgy, I gave it a good wire brushing, no perforations appeared so on went a coat of silver hammerite, the crush washers on the banjo bolt are the same as some in the oil change kit :thumb2

I also thought about replacing that pipe, but after chatting to the very helpful mechanic at Battersea BMW, he suggested giving it a scrub with the wire brush and coating it with Hammerite and Stewart H mentions.

I did that about 2 years ago and have had no problems since, including further rusting.

it's about £80. Mine had perforated and started leaking.

I did try and get a braided one made up, but the pipe makers actually bent a metal one to shape and fitted the ends. They did it for £25 but it took them forever, I would just pay the money and replace it.

When I priced it, it was cheaper from BMW than motorowrks if that helps.

It's what the MoT guy said at the time and to be fair to him the advice he gave on a couple of other bits was spot on. Looking at it I'd be happier replacing it rather than it failing.
That said, I'll take it off and see how it looks internally.

Thanks all for your help

Motorworks

I have R1150R oil coolers on my R1150GS since I modded up the front end - did require a bit of bending to get it all to fit, but that's another story :mmmm .

The R1150R return pipe from Motorworks (in 2007) was around £57 if I recall correctly. Can't imagine the GS will be much more -it is a bit longer. The Motorworks guys are very helpful if you call them. They may even have a decent enough second hand one for less than that.

Braided hoses would be great as mentioned above but may still need something to guide the return pipe down the front of the engine casing.

Cheers,

Psyko
