OK, So now what?

This ones done, or done as far as I can be arsed to do it - was a winter project (there is a thread on it elsewhere here) and now i'm finished. I quite get the Harley thing nowadays so want to pick up another one but not a Sportster - I like em but at 6 ft they are a little cramped for me (but do-able) so looking to move up the ladder a bit.

Now, having had my gender reassignment and recently converting to Harley, I admit I know very little about the naming conventions and nomenclature, and looking at what's available my head hurts and my eyes glaze over so appealing for help from the massiv 'ere

Looking for a big twin. Carburated. Not wide forks. Probably Evo, but the better ones (mid 90's?) Not rubber mounted (I think, but may be I do want rubber?). Needs to look more like my Sporty here rather than a massive chrome edifice strewn with lights and gew gews. Quite fancy cast wheels for a change but not fixed on that. Near as to £6 k as poss. Simple as poss basically!

Seen a few "Dyna Sport Glides" which seem to fit the bill, but as I say don't know much about them or if they are the disaster Harley or what - would rather not buy a model that is universally reviled for whatever mechanical/unreliability reasons.

Where should I be casting my beady eyes gents?

Thanks👍

Perhaps if you lost this shit -
“Now, having had my gender reassignment and recently converting to Harley,”
Some folks could be bothered to respond?
It was meant as a joke but I see it may have missed the mark. My bad. Apologies for any offence.

No real issues with any of the evo engines that haven’t been/can’t be sorted…there are no “bad” models it’s just whichever style bike suits you.

I’ve never had a Harley so I don’t know what the ‘it’ is they have. I wouldn’t mind owning one before I finally stop riding though, but I already know that the acres of chrome and headlamps you describe would not be my thing either.

I quite like the one you have pictured. Maybe some different handlebars, fuel tank possibly.

This is so subjective….

EVO engines in Touring/Dyna/Softail….. most will have been messed about with…

Or early Carb Twin Cam… same as above…

Set your 6k limit on eBay and see what trawls up..

£6k budget…

I’d buy this without question….

Thanks Twizzle 👍

I am building a database, this one is on it.........

My research tells me that certain models (Dyna's ?) can be susceptible to a "death wobble" and that certain models eat chain tensioners with a disastrous effect -is this facts or the internet sensationalising a non event in the real world ??

Thats my sporty - looking for something kinda like it, but bigger. Please do feel free to make me an offer. Please. 😁

Early TC can eat tensioners… easy to check, cheap enough to upgrade. (Ish…..)

That Street Bob is 2006 so (should) be fine..as newer model… ( internet says years effected 2000-2005)

You managed to sort out that Ironhead, right? So…nothing to fear with the foibles of something a bit “newer” . The handling issues are generally just “Harley-ness” up to a point. Once you’ve checked out engine mounts, alignment, tyres and suspension, bearings etc..that is…. 🤪. There is lots of advice/help available.

Well yes - but as an (now ex) mechanic that wasn't really a problem, - more that I am trying to buy something that I will not necessarily have to throw money at it to finish building it properly for Harley lol

Thanks to all so far, much appreciated 👍

Is that not right?

Anyhoos not really the bike for me, would end up removing most of the chrome parts so paying for what I don't want/need.

“if” its a 103 at that age it would either be a Screaming Eagle/CVO motor (no signs of that in this advert) or converted afterwards…

The stroke is the same and 103's make noticeably more power so a good many 96's were converted to 103.

edited to correct that they share the same stroke, thanks Doris.
