I'll give you £50 if you can persuade 10 of the male members here to check themselves for testicular cancer, and then confirm it (text only, no pics please!) in this thread.
I had testicular cancer about 7 years ago, and made a full recovery. The good news about testicular cancer is that the treatment is very effective - unlike breast cancer it rarely kills. If I were raising money for cancer research I would pick breast cancer over testicular cancer any day of the week.
The bad news is that men don't examine themselves much, so they don't notice (or choose to ignore) the telltale swelling of one bollock until the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, as happened to me.
Men hardly talk about these things, so I'm all for women taking over the role of chief bollock examiner - if women checked their partners' balls as often as they checked their own breasts it would definitely save lives. No doubt there are plenty of men in here who, like me, don't have a woman handy to lavish attention on the area in question. So Matron and Lucy, this is where you come in! Get the chaps to have a fumble and report back online. If you can get the ball rolling (fnaar, fnaar) I'll be very impressed and you might just improve the life expectancy of the average UK GSer!
If anybody wants to know more about any aspect of testicular cancer or its treatment ask away. The main thing you need to know is that if one of your balls grows you should get your GP to take a look asap. No need to panic, it might be nothing...there are plenty of harmless reasons for one of your balls to be bigger than the other....but get yourself checked anyway.
Happy handfuls,
Nick
