Chefchaouen is a cool little place. 3* Hotel Alkhalifa has easy bike parking outside. It’s on the North East side of town. (y)

Richie: loving the interactive ride report and the flexible plan....that's the kind of travel I like best, so will be following your RR and willing you on. I also like your choice of steed....smaller is better (especially now you have done the hard miles!!). Thanks for posting, keep it coming as you will have lots of support from the crew on here I know.

PS Centuries ago I had a relative from Allihies (don't know if they were miners or not).

slan abhaile, thanx for the updates.
hoping to follow youse soon.
The sim card bought in ES, was that a sim for morocco?
cheers

Yes the sim card is for Morocco, did not quite work out as planned, and is only partially working. No offence to Carlos. I should have done what I normally do, go into a shop, hand over the phone, get the card installed make sure it works and then pay.... Been faffing about for a few hours now....

Interesting, relatives from Allihies.

Boat from Tarifa to Tangier was very easy, A few Spanish lads on board one of whom could speak French so I got a few tips. Got through customs and received the paperwork, followed by the 100euro insurance deal. Set the hotel recommended above into my phone which is luckily using preloaded maps and headed out of a very calm and easy Tangier, So much easier than most Asian cities, and totally not at all like Cairo.

The spin to Chefchoen was simple and pleasant I stopped with an hour to go and had a Tajine and tea and continued on to the Hotel. The hotel is very nice and staff are very friendly but at 50 EURO a night it is more expensive than Spain. However I already realise that where I stay will also be where the bike stays and even if bike theft is low in Morocco, I can imagine bikes parked on streets can easily get knocked over. After seeing the way drivers park and reverse here.

Tomorrow I think I will stay here for another night, take a walk around, maybe a local spin on the bike. Sort out hopefully the sim card and try and find a feking proper map. I should have thought of that earlier.
I also need to sort out my camera tethering as it worked last week in France but it aint working anymore.

Fez on Monday

Offline maps and Google. Well I'm no expert but I have downloaded Morocco maps, however Google maps refuses to plan a route unless I am online. Once it is planned I can go off line, which is a pain due to my ongoing SIM problems.

I have installed MRA and downloaded Morocco and mapy.cz and downloaded Morocco too, so I should be fine

Hanging around here today and try to sort out sim, map and maybe a light jacket as it's raining again ..

You're not on your own, I haven't got a clue how to use Googke maps off-line. Best of luck in getting it sorted.

Richie: you used to be able to have a gardien mind your bike overnight for a nominal amount…last time I did it he slept by the bike!

Yes , I have booked a riad for tomorrow in fez where apparantly I can pay 20mrd to park which is fine. Google maps, I guess if I save the route I could then use it. But I have paid for Mra and downloaded Morocco. However mapy.cz seems much easier to use.

Those of you who have been here before which if the following choices would you take.... Left middle or right.

I’m pretty certain all of the main phone apps need a connection to search a location and plan a route.

All downloading the maps does is save you data charges, and allow you to navigate with no phone signal - as long as you don’t change the route.

Certainly the case for MRA.

The right route will most likely be the more interesting one.

As you approach Fes you will be buzzed by lots of scoots who want to show you the best hotel.
Avoid eye contact with them they, otherwise they will not leave you alone :D
