One up the rear

It had to happen. 2 months old, first GS and a total 'cheesy grin' pride and joy. Stationary waiting in a line of traffic and a van hits me from behind ripping off the off-side pannier. Black plastic male pegs on the panniers shattered off and the bracket on the bike with the metal retaining peg broken. Into BMW on Wednesday.
Poss' very lucky as as far as I can see he only hit the pannier. Rear wheel showing no sign of impact nor any other sign of impact on the rear.
Appreciate every hit is different but am sure this must have happened to others - anything else you think I should be checking?

Mine bike is three years older but it was a big hit that distorted the wheel etc and caused £5k of damage and causing "soft tissue bruising" to the wife and badly breaking my wrist into the bargain.

Apart from the wheel and tyre all was ok apart from the passenger footrest.

What I meant was the rest of the damage was plastics and not structural.

If there's anything bent on the rear subframe (sounds like there is) that's about £1800 fitted... from recent experience of a similar accident where the car hit the RH pillion peg and bent the subframe.
