Operation engine swap.

Actuator-X2.png

No9 comes out through the clutch basket or at least did when I changed mine. I can measure it when home as I have a spare but won’t be home until Sunday

I think that just goes to show what a compromise the LC designers made regarding clutch actuation when they re-positioned the clutch to the front of the engine. I suspect thermal expansion of this very long set of rods may have something to do with the way the clutch bite point is not very consistent on these bikes, and I don't suppose these rods are made of special low expansion materials, or one of them has a negative coefficient of expansion to cancel out the others! I have definitely experienced clutch issues in hot conditions with delayed engagement causing loss of engine braking on downshifts.

Actuating the clutch through such a long three piece rod just seems so Heath Robinson. Surely they could have engineered an actuator that operates at the front of the engine? I guess the problem is that space for wheel clearance is very tight at the front of the bike and they don't want the engine to have to go further back in the chassis to allow more room at the front.

Well done that man, engine tuned out to be a bargain then. Remember to inform DVLA of new engine number (if its required ) that is.

Yes in hand. Change of colour too..

Yes engine seems a good one. Bike shows 55000 miles but engine, gearbox done 6000 miles. :thumb

Well done mate.
Don't forget changing the engine number with Datatag also.

Thanks.
I don’t have datatag, unless it is standard from the factory?

It should have been an aftermarket add on, by the original supplying dealer, but I would have thought the bike would have had visual stickers confirming the installation ?

No stickers so I assume not....

I've been quietly watching this thread from the beginning.

Good read and an excellent job resulting in a great bike

Well done and enjoy

Mike

And the 2017 on clutch and gearboxes a vast improvement on previous.

The gearbox does feel sweet and a nice feeling clutch too. I have only ridden down the road on it though.

Datatag has been on all new bmw's I've bought since 2010, however, on the last two the stickers were not applied and were instead included in the information pack to be applied at the owners discretion

And the registration certificate would also be supplied by the dealer, ready for change of ownership by the new owner.

I also informed Datatag of the new engine number when mine was replaced under warranty.

I have sent Datatag an email with the bike details on so they can look into it.

Well done, I’ve enjoyed following this tread. Enjoy the bike, you deserve to.

Good work.
And has already been said, the improvement in clutch action will have been worth the sweat.
