I'm a bit new to bmw's so where is the best place to plug in the Optimate charger ? On the battery post plug (with the weatherproof rubber covering) or into the auxiliary plug low down on the left side ? Thanks in advance.

I plug my charger into the auxiliary socket on the starter motor cover. Works fine for me :thumb2

Either is good, the socket is fused (fuse 3 on my bike) whereas the jump starter post is hardwired.

Plug directly using the battery cable method as you suggested, avoid the on board accessory socket as it switches off after a few minutes of use. Loads of threads on this site, just do a search and you will be amazed. assuming you have a GS1200 of course.

As he's posting in the 11xx section I kind of assumed he isn't talking about a 1200  We don't have newfangled CANBUS electrics.

Don't worry, this side is for the bikes that don't get arsey when you try to do something. Canbus/Can'tbus:D
