Dolomiti Tour August 2011.

Dolomites revisited.

The Journey Down.

Sunday 21st August we travel in tandem down to Seabrook House in Hythe. Nice little B and B £35 each. Continental breakfast for early risers. Went out and had the best curry we have had for ages.
Onto the Tunnel for first time courtesy Tesco Vouchers for both vehicles.
Will be using this system again.

Into France and Julie is in the car with daughter Hannah coaching her on driving in France. First day heading for Metz and an F1.

Monday we are off into Germany Julie on the back as No 2 daughter has conquered French Roads.

Fully fuelled we head off for Hotel Engel in Lehr just outside Ulm. Hannah ok till we cross the Rhine and pick up the A8. Coaching over intercom to plan and execute overtakes . The girl done well. Good food at Engel but service slow.
Massive electrical storm at night and a lovely drop of rain to cool everything off. Riding in all the gear, temp up to high 30 deg C . Were Cooking Now. Re routed away from the madness of A8 and picked up A7 part way down. We call in at Vils for Austrian Vignette

and find a fine Landrover.

We point aimlessly at nothing as per Mr Bouncer of this Parish however my Hannah said “Dad That’s Just Gay”!!!

We ride on over the Fernpass and its midweek so not busy.

We travel on to Autostrada

The Dolomites
This part is famous for its wood carving.

We slowly move up the Gardena Pass , The Sella and onto The Pordoi, very busy all the coach trippers.

We arrive at Hotel Olympia at about 4pm . Seven days to travel around now.

When we arrived in Dolomites my daughter had to call Julie to drive because of coach activity. It was a bit mental. She soon got used to it bless her.
So many images may well just link them. Julie took tons of photos.

On our way home down the very same pass a driver reversed onto the hardshoulder to make room for another coach. Nearly went too far. Did find that this seemed to be the busiest area.

Dolomites

Dolomites Thursday 25th August.

The young generation want a rest day after the 3 day journey down. So the 50+ oldies go out for the day on the bike. We take the Compolonga Pass to Corovara to get fuel

and pick up the Gardena Pass.We are heading there to check out the wood carvings.

We nip back to Corovara and ride the Valporola Pass

Where it joins the Falzareggo Pass we have a look at costs to go up on the cable car to Lagouzi Rifugio. Will post images

It would have been criminal not to continue and do the Giau Pass before returning to base. So we did. Mrs B having her first strudel. I am allowed a taste but being very large that’s all. Salad and small portions of healthy food only.

Saturday 27th August

Cortina and Lake Misurano. Or Lake Miserable in De Rain

Off we go Mrs B in the car to keep out the weather .

Thankfully an umpah band has us up and dancing

It rained so much that the wood carver

Made a Gondala for us to get home

We parked the Gondala here

Saw this blasting around very nice sound, make scramblers too

We do Tre Croce Pass up to Lake Misurano

Began raining again and even the ducks followed us to the Café

We set off for Arabba and as we leave Cortina The Sun is Coming Out.

So I take the scenic route over the Giau

Back home in time for tea and 3 of us ready for more playing tomorrow

Dated but very clean,no early breakfast,cereal and fruit. Very reasonable after some of the gaffs we have stopped in. 8 minutes to tunnel .

Sunday 28th August

Sunday 28th August
Lake Alleghe drive by to Passo Cereda and Aurine ,Passo Rolle for lunch. Predazzo ,Moena.Canazei.Pordoi Pass to Hotel.

A longish day but us oldies still got enough Stamina to blast up to the top of the Pordoi for Sun going down. Its not Pink its Salmon Mountains.

Monday 29th August

Monday 29th August

Another fantastic day, an easier day . Corovara for big supermarket to stock up on cheap pasta and italian coffee.

Julie saves a Dragonfly from certain death.

We were sure it said thanks.

I come over all nostalgic, spying some old Fiat 500. Hannah said I just looked Gay!!! So strike a pose or two.

Just for the embarrassment factor don’t you know, he says mincing off.

We drive off and up the Gardena Pass , the Sella Pass, Pordoi Pass to base.

Descending the Pordoi we are overtaken at great speed by more than 1 pushbike, this one takes Julies eye I think I hear “ perfectly formed , pert , mmm white lycra “ “what was that” ? Oh nothing dear just window shopping!! “

Tuesday 30th August

We are going to Lake Alleghe Market today, another easy day before heading back towards home.

We wander and do a few photos.

At lunch we find the Hotel Alpi after much searching and no ones eating there,next door is this place and its buzzing.

So salad and pizza is ordered and a beer for Julie.

We then have a gander at all the shop made cakes . Julie buys herself a treat for later, sweetooth that she is. Bless.

Heading Back to Hotel Olympia on our Final Day

Tricky

My 3rd trip to Dolomites over last 8 years. Honestly just gets better. Have overdosed on mountains again and fancy a bit of a change. There have been some excellent write ups on Germany. Have to start doing research for next years trip. We will see.
