I've added some more LED rear lights to my R1200GS (2004) after being bumped at a roundabout. After quite a bit of research I went for the P3 Lights from Skene Design (see Here at Skene Design. The alternative was the Hyperlites but they didn't seem quite as configurable or so well supported.
The cost was quite high ($144) but there is a $20 discount for people with advanced bike training. You may get stung with customs too so be warned. That said, they include everything you need in the box...2 x light units, a controller and all the connectors. The instructions are clear and there are bike specific instructions online too. However, on the GS in the UK, you need a bit of lateral thinking to mount them as the instructions assume the US licence plate mounting is fitted. I used standard licence plate screws to mount the lights, with a twist in the bracket to keep the LEDs perpendicular with the road.
In addition to these lights I have already converted the original tail light to LED using a Nippy Normans supplied Design board (2 different sets of LED for tail and brake lights). Plus I added LED indicators with brake light LED strips in (Red Baron - see Nippy Normans). CANBUS has no dramas with the whole setup, except for a warning that displays until you apply the brake for the first time. then it's fine.
So what do you get? Well since the tail light modulation and brake light flash are blatantly illegal in the UK at the moment I have selected them off (dead easy to do and undo). See Skene Design for these options. What you do get is extra tail lights, extra brake lights and they flash with the indicators too. Plus you can programme them to be fog lights. Really easy to do with a programming window 5 sec after the ignition is turned on.
