A bit like a small kid as Christmas approaches I think I've cranked up the excitement levels too high, too soon. :hogroast:steptoe:hapybnce::hapybnce::
:blast:blast:blast:blast:blast

Marked up all the places we're staying at on the maps yesterday and been reading Trip Advisor reviews today.
It looks very much as if we're going to be staying in some terrific places, really individual and quirky. Hats off to Chris - putting this all together for such a big group can't have been easy.

I put my maps in the bike's top box and SWMBO was getting annoyed :)

Plotted the route last night on my tom tom...... Again.....:blast...... First did it about 6 months ago. All hotels plotted even down to the observatory that overlooks spirit lake on the north side of Mount St. Helens! I'm assuming that's where we'll be viewing from because the visitors centre is miles further away and on the opposite side! I could be wrong.... I was wrong once before but I was a child then and it never happened again:augie... When we get there I'm bound to take a wrong turn but that only normally happened when I'm following uturntony :clap:comfort..... Then we'll argue about routes because his satnav is garbage..... I mean Garmin! :comfort then just look at the maps in our tank bags and shrug our shoulders and say ....you know what?....it doesn't matter:blagblah.... We're not really lost, just checking out a different road to the rest of the group:friday

Roll on September :beerjug:

Mark,

Did Tony send you through my latest route last night? What became clear yesterday is that .gpx files from Tyre don't load up accurately in Basecamp. I've now got both program's and I loaded up your route in both and in a few places they diverge!

I don't mind sharing mine with anyone who wants it but it would be good to get a definitive route that everyone agrees on. I'm fairly happy with mine (which is virtually identical to yours and Tony's) but what I think I'm missing are specific waypoints for stops along the way. I might be able to pull most of them out of your's and Tony's gpx files but a definitive list would be a good starting point.

I've plotted all the overnight stops very carefully in terms of exact locations. I noticed Tony had one missing - the one in Mineral from memory? Going back to the point about Basecamp v Tyre, your route shows it when I load it in Tyre but it doesn't come up in Basecamp!

Hi Andy. If you give me your email address I will email my completed route over this evening. I think mines pretty close as I have plotted all the roads that Bilco has mentioned. The only stop I don't have is Vancouver. I'll send it as a tyre map. :beerjug:

I think the route in the satnav is only for back up as I'm going to try and navigate via map. I also remember Chris saying that we would have a bit of a conflab at night before riding the next day..... Things might change with the route anyway so I'm not gonna depend on it being so accurate to start with... As long as we know where we are staying at night that's all that matters, some will probably do a different route to others. Myself and tony are planning to ride together. We won't be breaking any speed limits. It'd be an advantage to ride with others too as I don't just want tony in my photos!!:comfort no offence tony :D

Chris has obviously planned the route as there is stuff he would like us to see and enjoy so some of the waypoints will be used on the satnav too

you'll not be getting anymore key lime pie if you keep slagging me and my sat nav. off :green gri

i do seem to take a different route quite often, actually it's more fun :D

yep. roll on, lets get at it :D

All I've done so far is put the hotels into my Nav V. I was kind of assuming we'd discuss/agree routes the night before each day's travel.:nenau

That said, the notion of having everything preloaded into the Sat Nav before we leave Engerland appeals enormously to my OCD. :D

that's my plan but not plumbed hotels in yet.

by the time i have finished staring at the route on my computer screen it's likely to be permanently etched into my retinas and it will be like having a head up display :blast

I am sure muttering swear words at my laptop will be etched into your ears too by the time I get the hang of basecamp on a mac :)

Mind you. A good days ride. Beer and food.
Helps the brain no end :)

Basecamp? it's the spawn of the devil i tell yer :D

Tony, I usually find base camp works great, the satnav works great, however who thought they were great together???

PS Post #434 and we have a month to go till we leave..!

i was being a bit provocative mainly because i'm rubbish with it :D why is that? you might ask. it's because i haven't tried hard enough to master it i answer. :blast

yep. a month to go, wow.

initially i am looking forward to getting to the airport with Mark and Jo, clearing check in and security (my Mrs. is on pins until this is done) and then settling down with a big coffee and sticky bun :D

Why are you worried - is it because I put the drugs and bombs in your bag?

I am really pleased to see that they almost match Mark :)

Thanks for sharing...

Is it just me or has the ship stalled somewhere off the coast of Southern Ireland? Or is it travelling at 17.4kn against a 17.4kn current?:nenau:aidan
