Paint Wear

Sorry but no way should a £20,000 bike ' require as a matter of course ' extra paint protection unless it is being used for say police or similar use where it can be expected to suffer higher rates of wear and usage than a privately owned biie. If paint finishes are deteriorating after such a short space of time they are not up to a merchantable standard, BMW Motorrad pull the stunt of claiming it is due to environmental pressure that they use water based paints which is fine ,however, so do others but they put on the paint perhaps a little thicker or use a better quality water based paint.
Poor finish is just that , in BMW's case it is as ever due to their striving for maximum profits .
Bet your bottom dollar that if the finish was as susceptible to early wear on say door handles on BMW cars the complaints would raise a more positive respone to remedying the situation.

I know we're all different sizes and Wear different gear but I've just done 3,500 miles to Norway,4 800in total now and there's no paint wear ,the bike has cleaned up like new and it was bloody filthy 👍

Well as it stands, right now I have had no support from my Dealer nor BMW Customer Service even though I have bought around 8 New BMW bikes from the same dealer over the course of 15 Years riding bikes, can't say I pleased so far with the outcome

Almost all bikes require extra protection for knee wear. BMW or your dealer are not going to repaint your tank or replace it with a new one. There's a ton of products out there to prevent this wear
I agree that being the case, but why would it wear with so limited miles and considering I have never encountered such with any other Bikes including BMW GS, I find it surprisingly disappointing

Mine is now looking battle scarred after a recent trip, in the place where my knees rest (rallye pants), albeit i didnt wash the bike for a fortnight and there was some torrential rain at times , dust/rain/grit. Its a metal part and a matt finish so a bit stuck now.

I would advise a paint protection kit based on my experience. Personally I think bmw should be providing it as standard on this spot if its matt paint and therefore cant be polished, i have never had an issue like this before.

They have put plastic protection on the frame in places.

The plastic heal /ankle guards are also marked and greying now, not exactly hard wearing.

This is just a warning/heads up for others.

I didn't mention EU.
Don't know where the ban of 2pack paint comes from. Looking at it another way, I suppose it's better if a few bits of paint wear through than paint sprayers suffer long-term health problems in the future from having to use it now.
I wonder how many parts are sprayed by human hand, versus robot nowadays?
