I am attempting to move house on my GS! I don't have a car licence, So I am carefully filling the panniers up with everything I own (2 side panniers and Top box)- All good, as I am used to this as I have lived out of my panniers for 5 years now, as I work on the road (did work on the move)- So... Panniers + Top box, standard, but then a water-tight carry all strapped over pillion seat, and somehow my 70 litre rucksack strapped to that... A lot of luggage! and I still don't have everything I need to take, but I am good with comprimises! What I need to ask you guys is are there any tips for loading up this amount of weight/mass/luggage? I am using bungees and 2 cargo nets and I got a set of straps... Anyone got any good PHOTOS of similar set ups? any feedback will make me feel better about this trip- Which is from the far northern coast of Scotland (Tongue) to the deep south-west (falmouth,Cornwall)- about 800 odd miles I think..Looking forward to any replies...Jon:eek:

Don't know wether it's of much use now, but have a look here. You might be able to get something similar made up that runs across the pillion and the top's of your panniers.

I think the largest load i put on one of my bikes was on a cbr600, 60 litre ventura pack and huge kit bag for ice hockey gear. Not a patch on what your planning so good luck.

Oh, have a look at this thread by Ricardo for some inspiration

I'd put the majority in a big box and give it to a parcel delivery company, then you can enjoy the ride in relative safety:thumb won't cost too much either:nenau

Is there not a better method?

Is it not possible to make up a crate full of bits you need and have it sent by road transport or rail of some sort? We used to send masses of stuff by rail and it must be better than riding an overloaded bike - which IT WILL BE!!!! If you fall off your bike - even when stationary - it might prove a lot more expensive than a removal firm. Sorry to sound negative but i have seen some pretty overloaded bikes around here and they frighten me!!! Panniers + a top box, properly loaded to capacity, can still be a bit of a handful in cross winds;
